Despite Jeffrey Dean Morgan's potential involvement in Season 3 of Prime Video's The Boys being called into question by the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke still hopes to get Morgan on the show.During a Q&A on Twitter, Kripke was asked if there were any performers he'd like to see join the cast of The Boys in the future. "At the top of my list is Jeffrey Dean Morgan," he replied. "He's a big fan of the show, an old friend from Supernatural. I would love to get him and Jensen [Ackles] into the same season. COVID is fucking that up pretty good, though, 'cause he's a regular on another show -- Walking Dead -- and there's a two-week quarantine in Canada. So, for him to hang out for two weeks just to shoot a couple days of The Boys just might not be possible in this environment. But let's get rid of the quarantine!"
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Morgan -- known for his role as Negan on The Walking Dead -- had been lobbying to join the cast of The Boys Season 3. Shortly thereafter, however, it came to light that Morgan's involvement in the superhero satire might not come to pass for the reasons Kripke detailed during the Q&A.
If Morgan were to join The Boys Season 3, it would mark something of a Supernatural reunion. Kripke created Supernatural, which is currently in the midst of its 15th and final season on The CW and stars Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester, co-lead to Jared Padalecki's Sam Winchester. Morgan appeared on the show as John Winchester, the father of the two. As Kripke points out, Ackles is already confirmed to be joining the cast of The Boys Season 3 as the character Soldier Boy.
Based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys follows the eponymous group of vigilantes as they attempt to fight back against superheroes who abuse their power and status, more specifically the famous team known as the Seven. The series dropped its entire first season on Amazon Prime Video on July 26, 2019, with Season 2 following a new weekly release format, premiering earlier this year on Sept. 4 and concluding just a few days ago on Oct. 9. A third season has been ordered, with a college-centric spinoff titled The G-Men also in the works.

Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Prime Video.
