The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke recently credited the show's Best Drama Emmy nod to the weekly release schedule of Season 2 episodes.

"I know some of the fans were unhappy, but it was completely producer-driven," Kripke revealed in a new interview with Vanity Fair. "Season 1 got an amazing response. But, honestly, I think it's dissatisfying to put that much effort and care into every detail and then have this two-week orgy of attention and love for the show."

He added that dropping the entirety of Season 1 at the same time made it "completely disposable," noting that with Season 2, "We just wanted to be a part of the conversation longer... We wanted to give the audience an opportunity to obsess over whatever happened in that particular episode's madness," Kripke further explained. "A lot of fans were really upset, and I get it. But I have to say, as the experiment, it was an incredibly successful one."

The showrunner also suggested that by releasing new episodes from Season 2 each week, they were able to breakthrough in a way that other shows, which are arguably just as good, haven't been able to. "We got into the conversation long enough that people started telling their friends and more articles were written," he concluded. "I have no doubt in my mind that we would not be nominated for best drama had we been in the binge model, rather than weekly."

It was recently announced that Season 2 of The Boys was nominated for five Emmy Awards: Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie, Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour).

Amazon Studios announced it would be celebrating the nods with a week full of food and events inspired by characters and events from Season 2. Taking place Aug. 13-17 in Los Angeles, the Seven SUPEr Days event includes several The Boys-themed pop-ups, which feature complimentary food, drinks and activities for fans of the series. Among the featured treats are "Butcher Shop" sandwiches by Chef Ludo Lefebvre, a themed "Compound V" cocktail and a The Boys-inspired ice cream truck.

While The Boys does not currently have an official release date for Season 3, recent reports suggested that the series has already grabbed an early order for Season 4. The first two seasons of the series can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video now.
