The Boys' Chace Crawford admitted he was pretty nervous about how fans of the show would react to the infamous Season 2 scene involving Lucy the Whale.

"I started bawling. I started weeping. That was my first reaction, obviously," the actor joked during a New York Comic Con panel attended by CBR. "No, I was laughing. You know, I didn't know how we were going to do it, to be honest."

Crawford further recalled filming Lucy's death, noting, "We're doing the whale thing and I'm like, 'Oh God, we already got some shit for the dolphin thing, you know?' Like, this is a bigger deal. She's got a name -- Lucy. I mean, it's crazy."

Season 2, Episode 3 of The Boys, "Over the Hill with the Swords of a Thousand Men," features a scene in which Crawford's The Deep is seen riding on the back of a sperm whale named Lucy and attacking the titular Boys, who are in a speedboat. At one point, The Deep and Lucy position themselves between the speedboat and the beach The Boys are heading toward. Ultimately, Billy Butcher is forced to plunge the boat into the side of the whale, killing her instantly and launching The Boys into the literal belly of the beast.

The scene is the second to feature a violent death of a sea creature that The Deep had sworn to protect, being a superhero with the ability to speak with animals that reside under the sea. In Season 1, the "Supe" attempts to save a captive dolphin by kidnapping the animal from a local aquarium. Unfortunately, The Deep collides with a truck in the midst of the rescue mission, launching the dolphin through the windshield and into oncoming traffic. It's worth pointing out that the dolphin used in the series was animatronic, and no animals were harmed during production.

Amazon Studios' The Boys also stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Antony Starr as Homelander, Katia Winter as Little Nina and Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy. Season 3 of The Boys does not yet have an official release date, but fans speculate the new season will debut on Amazon Prime Video in late 2021 or early 2022.
