We have a story for you to read about The Boys, but first, would you like a Fresca?

The Amazon Prime series' cast attended a retrospective panel at New York Comic Con 2021 to discuss the show's last two seasons ahead of its upcoming third. The panel was filled with laughs from both the cast and the audience, with Hughie actor Jack Quaid bringing up at one point that in Season 2, it felt like Chace Crawford's character, the Deep, was starring in his own show. The Deep's arc that season had the washed up supe join the Church of the Collective, a cult established in the show's universe. One aspect of the Church still remains a mystery to the cast though: its obsession with Fresca.

Following Quaid's statement during the panel, Crawford said, "Fuck Fresca," his character's closing line in the show's Season 2 finale. The Deep had joined the Church of the Collective in the hopes that it could return him to glory and get him back on the Seven super team. Towards the middle of the season, he helped out fellow supe A-Train and convinced him to join the Church, who in turn, helped A-Train get back into the Seven instead of the Deep. Feeling betrayed by this notion, he insults the Church's favorite drink in front of its leader, Alasatir Adana, before leaving the room.

The appearance of the drink happens numerous times in Season 2 and started as a running gag in the writer's room, according to showrunner Eric Kripke, who has previously spoken on the beverage's involvement in the series. "It just became this running joke," Kripke said, claiming that there was no deeper meaning and the writers would just laugh at the thought that it is the drink cult members would enjoy. During the panel, the cast revealed that they were also waiting for an explanation about Fresca in the series.

"Yeah, I think we're all waiting for like, 'Okay, they'll tell us what the Fresca is about. We'll get there.' What's with the Fresca?" Starlight actor Erin Moriarty asked. Crawford jokingly responded, "It's still a secret. We don't know. You gotta watch it again to find out." He then conceded, saying, "No, I don't even know," but that Kripke tried to enlighten him on the subject once.

"Kripke explained it me one time and I still don't understand it. So, there you have it. I'm serious, I don't know what it is."

It is unclear whether the Church of the Collective or Fresca will make a return in the series' upcoming season, especially after its leader was killed during the final moments of the Season 2 finale. What is known about Season 3 is that it will introduce Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, along with numerous other supes along for the ride. The new season of The Boys will reportedly release in mid-2022.
