Actor Jessie T. Usher discussed how his character — A-Train — developed a mutually beneficial relationship with Starlight throughout The Boys, and how their bond will be essential for her character growth in a recent interview.

Usher said in an interview with ComicBook.com that "both characters need something from each other," and went on to explain that they "are constantly playing this ongoing game of chess...who is gonna have the advantage over the other person and when are they going to need to use that advantage." He also revealed that "blackmail" will be a part of their bond in future plots.

While Amazon Prime Video's The Boys portrays the Seven as super-powered and villainous individuals, the lone exception to this rule is Starlight/Annie January (Erin Moriarty). As Annie emerged as a hero (and in spite of the Seven), she made all kinds of alliances, including an unexpected bond with the Seven's resident speedster, A-Train (Jessie T. Usher). Throughout the series, she has grown to depend on him, even if she doesn't trust him he doesn't trust her.

"You know what I think, I think honestly Starlight might learn more from A-train because this is the first time that she's got a chance to... She doesn't necessarily ask questions but she has, you know she has questions. They get answered in Season 2," Usher foretold. "So I think she learns a little bit more about who he is and why he is the way that he is based on these series of events that play out."

Both A-Train and Starlight have an intimate connection to the series' main character Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid). A-Train ran through Hughie's girlfriend Robin in the series premiere, killing her and leading Hughie to join the Boys. Hughie and Annie engaged in a relationship after Annie ended up saving him from the Seven and A-Train in the Season 1 finale.

Amazon Studios' The Boys stars Karl Urban as Billy Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie, Laz Alonso as Mother's Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as the Female, Erin Moriarty as Annie January, Chace Crawford as the Deep, Antony Starr as Homelander, Aya Cash as Stormfront and Simon Pegg as Hughie's dad. New episodes of Season 2 release Fridays on Amazon Prime Video.
