Cad Bane’s appearance in The Book of Boba Fett came as a welcome surprise to fans. Not only was it his live-action debut, but it was his first appearance since the age of the Empire, confirming that he survived into the days of the New Republic.

The gap between The Clone Wars and this appearance has not slowed him down at all, and he is still the gunslinging bounty hunter fans have grown to love. However, Bane’s appearance is not perfect, and though there were plenty of good things about it, fans were left wishing some things had been done differently.

10 Worst: His Screentime Was Limited

Cad Bane prepares for a stand-off in The Book of Boba Fett

Bane didn’t have as much to do in this series as some fans would have liked. He works for the Pyke syndicate, but he does not appear until the final two episodes, and even then his screentime is not much. The Book of Boba Fett could have at least teased his appearance before he truly stepped into the spotlight, setting him up as the heavy threat he is meant to be. His role in the show is good as it is, but fans were left wishing for more of him.

9 Best: His Continued Cowboy Aesthetic

Cad Bane in Star Wars: The Bad Batch

One of the most distinctive aspects of Bane is his space cowboy aesthetic, something that was exemplified in his appearance in The Bad Batch. The Book of Boba Fett takes this to even new heights, featuring him as a stranger from the desert that appears to have a gun duel showdown against Cobb Vanth and his deputy at high noon on Tatooine. The scene is complete with fearful townsfolk looking on from their windows. A Cad Bane appearance would not be complete without an old west homage.

8 Worst: No Use Of His Rocket Boots

One of Bane’s most iconic pieces of equipment is his rocket boots. He used them to his advantage many times in The Clone Wars, and they would have been perfect for combat against two Mandalorians with jetpacks.

However, with his small amount of screentime, a fight like that never happened, though it would have been amazing to see. It is questionable if he even has his rocket boots anymore with the change in his equipment, but they were certainly something the show could have utilized but chose not to.

7 Best: He Still Outguns Everyone

The Book of Boba Fett does not forget that Bane was a force to be dealt with. In his other appearances, he was infamously hard to defeat, and that has not changed despite the thirty years that have passed. He outdraws Cobb Vanth and his deputy and takes them out in an instant, then he later does the same to Boba Fett. Despite the large gap in his history during the age of the Empire, he is still one of the fastest shooters in the Star Wars universe.

6 Worst: Todo Was Not By His Side

Todo 360 in The Bad Batch

During The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, Bane owned the droid Todo 360, who would help him on his missions. Todo’s sarcastic quips and Bane’s replies helped to add a little bit of humor to the bounty hunter’s gritty character.

Unfortunately, in The Book of Boba Fett, Todo is absent, depriving viewers of his witticisms and leaving his fate during and after the age of the Empire unknown. Todo has always helped Bane when he needed it, and fans would have been happy to see the wisecracking droid once more.

5 Best: His Menacing Theme

Bane has always had good music to underscore his exploits, complete with an homage to westerns in The Bad Batch. The Book of Boba Fett’s composer Ludwig Goransson gives him a new theme that is perfectly fitting for his foreboding presence in the show. It is quite different from the other music that Bane has been given before, but it makes for a memorable debut into the world of live-action that works well with his suspenseful appearance and showdowns with Cobb Vanth and Boba Fett.

4 Worst: Live-Action Is A Bit Iffy

Cad Bane Live Action in Boba Fett

Fans were polarized with Bane’s appearance in the live-action world. Translating originally animated characters into a live format is never an easy task, especially for a character with such a distinctive design in a highly stylized show. Bane’s design remains faithful to his appearance in The Clone Wars, aside from an unfortunately smaller hat, though some fans felt it was not done as well as it could have been. Going from animation to live is always difficult, and many viewers were put off by Bane’s appearance.

3 Best: Finally Facing Boba Fett

Clone Wars gunfight

Fans who know Bane’s history have wanted to see him either fight or work alongside Boba, as Jango was Bane’s mentor. A deleted story arc in The Clone Wars had Bane and Boba working together, but it was ultimately never completed. One of the best parts of Bane’s appearance in The Book of Boba Fett was finally seeing the two interacting with each other, even if it was a fight to the death, and Bane even references Jango as he takes some digs at Boba and his origins.

2 Worst: His Supposed Death

Cad Bane's death in Book of Boba Fett

Up until now, Bane’s fate through the years of the Empire has been unknown, and fans were overjoyed to see he had survived. This makes it all the more disappointing that, only after appearing for two episodes, Bane is supposedly killed by Boba.

As always, there is still a chance that he might still be alive, as he was not shown again after his supposed death. However, seeing him go so soon after his exciting return is one of the most disappointing aspects of the show.

1 Best: Corey Burton’s Voice Performance

The thing that makes Bane truly memorable is his voice, provided by actor Corey Burton. With the perfect amount of menace and memorable lines, Burton has provided the voice of Bane across the years of the character’s appearances. Burton returned for The Book of Boba Fett to the happiness of many fans, continuing to voice the iconic character. Bane’s voice contains less modulation than his animated counterpart, perhaps to reflect the years that have passed since The Clone Wars, but overall Burton does not disappoint with his role.
