You know, it's just fun to categorize things. We, as humans, love to organize everything into neat little rows. This goes over here, that goes over there, And, one thing that people love to do recently, is figure out what DnD or MBTI alignment characters would fit into. For those unaware. The DnD Morality Chart is the standard for the different types of "moral foundations" characters have.

And today, we're going to apply those to the cast of Beastars! The surprisingly beautiful CGI Anime just ended for the season, so now seems like a good time. Keep in mind, we will go into manga spoilers a tad, but nothing big, and we'll try not to reveal any huge plot points. Also, we're going to cover all nine alignments, with one character in each, so if you feel a character doesn't perfectly fit into one categorization, that might just be the one that just made the most sense for them. So, without further ado, let's get started.

9 Chaotic Evil: Melon

Wow, we're starting things off pretty spoiler-y huh? Well, we won't go into too much detail, but Melon is the current antagonist of the presently running manga Arc. He's a hybrid animal who was the product of love between a gazelle and a cheetah, and being a hybrid is quite the struggle.

Unfortunately, Melon goes about dealing with his hybrid-problems in some very evil ways. This won't make much sense to anime fans, but manga kids know that Melon is the best encapsulation of Chaotic Evil the series has. But man, what a great design and gimmick.

8 Chaotic Neutral: Legosi

We struggled a bit between putting the main character Legosi into either Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Good, but we settled on Neutral for a variety of reasons. One, Legosi has acted in ways that are both evil and good, even if 90% of the time it's good. Two, Legosi fights for carnivores a lot of the time, not because he's defending their actions, but because he wants to save them from themselves.

Three, Legosi by nature likes to look at both sides of an issue, sure, it's obvious the kid doesn't believe in eating herbivores. But, he'll always listen to a Carnivore's point of view, and that's something pretty special to have in a protagonist. Unfortunately, the availability of the series and unique protag make it almost a certainty that Beastars won't be one of the "decade's greatest anime" even in the 2020s.

7 Chaotic Good: Jack

If there was an alignment called "The Goodest of Boys" Jack would be right there in it. This Golden Retriever, like most dogs, is too good for this world. Jack is Legosi's closest friend and the two of them grew up together. At first, Jack seemed to be pretty static, remaining as this single-note cheerful pup.

But, as the story goes on we get to see Jack go through a ringer of different conflicts both internally and externally. And, while his reactions to each may differ greatly, this pupper always strives to just be a good friend and an upstanding individual. And boy does he nail it.

6 Lawful Evil: The Shishigami

The Lawful Evil code of conduct is basically "Use the system of established rules to do evil". The perpetrators may not know or think they are doing evil, but they have a set of ethics or standards that stops them from going rampant. The Shishigami in Beastars as a pretty good example, since they serve as a pretty direct homage to the Yakuza or Mafia.

These Lions may be Predators who eat meat constantly and run the Back Alley Market, but they obviously have the well-being of those in the Back Aley in mind. Even more so once Louis takes over. Yes, the mafia does tons of "evil" things, but usually its for the benefit of those close to them.

5 Lawful Neutral: Gouhin

Lawful Neutral is a hard one. Some describe it as someone who sticks to their own ethics or code in the face of good and evil. While others describe it as someone who follows the orders of their superior (whether it's a government or a physical individual) to the letter.

Gouhin is more of the first example, only existing to help Carnivores get over their primal desires with his tried and true method. Gouhin lives between both Herbivores and Carnivores, so he literally dwells between both sides. No one is questioning that Gouhin is doing good work, but he does take matters into his own hands rather than turning criminals in, which is what earned him this classification

4 Lawful Good: Juno

Along the same vein as Gouhin, Juno is another that is trying to do some good. But, while Gouhin fights his battles outside the system, Juno fights hers intentionally under the systems spotlight. Juno starts out seeming like she'll be the next Louis, a sort of all-encompassing personality that wants to represent Cherryton as the next "Beastar".

Yes, she's more chipper than Louis, but they both exude charisma. But, as the story goes on and she learns more about her environment, Juno goes through a bit of a change. Still, at the end of it all, she's just a sweet girl who wants to do some good for the world while she's here.

3 Neutral Evil: Tem's Killer

Melon would almost fit into this category if he wasn't so absolutely all over the place. Now, we aren't going to spoil who Tem's killer is for the sake of our anime-only readers. But, for those who know, this classification fits pretty well huh? Tem's Killer is a bit of a deranged sociopath, not realizing that they've fallen off the deep end until much too late.

They'd turn on anyone in a moment if they needed to, and that's what makes them both Neutral and Evil. Once they went so far as killing a friend for food, there was no escaping an "evil" classification.

2 True Neutral: Louis

Louis was our hardest character to classify, mostly because he himself doesn't know what he wants. Even at the current point in the manga, Louis is still lost goal-wise and if he doesn't know, we couldn't possibly know. But, one thing is clear, Louis has an intimate knowledge of both Carnivores and Herbivores.

While Legosi likes to hear both sides, he usually always makes the "good" decision. Louis, on the other hand, fights a bit more in a sort of grey area. It's obvious he has some deep disdain for elitist herbivores (like his father) and primal carnivores (like most in the Back-Alley Market), and we still don't know which one he aligns with more.

1 Neutral Good: Haru

Neutral Good characters do the right thing no matter the consequences, and that's Haru to a tee. Even when her own body is screaming at her with everything it has to run away from this wolf, she'll stay and talk to him because it would be rude otherwise. It's obvious Haru has some complex emotional issues, but even with those, she does her best for the people around her.

That's not to say that she's perfect or 100% good. This Dwarf Bunny has slept around even though most of her suitors were dating someone. But, when it comes right down to it, Haru is one of the least conflicted characters in the franchise, and that's saying something considering everyone in Beastars seems to be constantly dealing with some sort of inner turmoil.
