Peter Sarsgaard offered a little bit of insight into his character from Matt Reeves' The Batman: Gotham City's district attorney, Gil Colson.

"Gil Colson, yeah yeah, and I’m a district attorney, and I'm basically a politician that has trouble telling the truth," Sarsgaard shared during an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. "I'm a pretty distasteful person in it." The actor didn't reveal whether his character would be working with or against Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Peter Sarsgaard's role in The Batman was confirmed by Warner Bros. at the same time as Jayme Lawson's. Lawson will be appearing in the film as a candidate for Gotham mayor named Bella Reál. Both actors will be playing characters that haven't appeared before in Batman lore.

Currently filming, The Batman is rumored to focus on the hero's early years as he hones his detective skills and goes against a number of Gotham's villains.

Sarsgaard is a long-time actor whose resume includes roles in 2010's Knight and Day, 2011's Green Lantern, 2015's Black Mass and 2109's Mr. Jones. The actor has also appeared in several TV shows, including The Killing, Wormwood and The Looming Tower.
