Robert Pattinson has revealed what he knows about a potential sequel to his new superhero flick, The Batman.

During an interview with Variety, Pattinson -- who plays Bruce Wayne/Batman himself -- shared what director Matt Reeves has shared with him as far as a sequel is concerned. When asked if Reeves talked about a character arc for Pattinson's Caped Crusader that goes beyond the first film, Pattinson replied, "I don't think so. We kind of had conversations about it since. But, I mean, he spent five years from conception to completion of this. He's very, very, very, one-track-minded -- well, one-project-minded, I guess. And so I think until this comes out, I doubt he's thought about the next steps yet. Or maybe he has and he hasn't told me."

Pattinson went on to describe how much Reeves cares for the characters of The Batman. "I think he has a very good understanding of fear," the actor explained. "I think a lot of people try to bullshit themselves that they're not afraid of anything. But he really acknowledges things that have scared him in his life and things that scare him presently, and really can project those into his movies."

Set during his second year of crimefighting, The Batman centers on the Dark Knight and his quest to track down the Riddler (Paul Dano), a sadistic serial killer who emerges from Gotham City's underbelly to hunt down the metropolis' elite. Following a series of cryptic clues, Batman soon realizes that the answers to the case he is pursuing lie a lot closer to home than he initially thought.

Almost immediately after its theatrical debut on March 4, The Batman received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike, due to the performances from the cast, as well as the film's sweeping cinematography, gripping story, expert direction and distinct visual style. Reeves wrote the screenplay for The Batman with Pattinson in mind after seeing him act in 2017's Good Time, despite Reeves being unsure if Pattinson was even interested in taking part in the film. Pattinson, however, became enamored with the idea of playing the superhero. When he was ultimately cast in 2019, the actor faced some backlash from fans -- primarily due to his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight film series -- but he says the response was not as bad as he had expected.

The Batman is currently playing in theaters.
