Robert Pattinson's choice of favorite Batman villain might turn a few heads."There's a bad guy in the Animated Series called Condiment King," Pattinson said during an interview with Brut México. "I just think it's the greatest idea. It's a guy who sprays mustard and ketchup at people, and I just think it's such a great idea for a bad idea... They just get covered in mustard. Pattinson's The Batman co-star Zoë Kravitz, who had obviously heard this outpouring of love before, quipped in with, "You're really sticking with this." She added that Condiment King's victims would probably enjoy dipping fries on their mustard and ketchup-laden selves.

Condiment King first appeared in "Make 'Em Laugh," the seventh episode of Season 3 of Batman: The Animated Series. The episode, which aired in 1994, begins with the ridiculous character staging a hold-up in a fancy restaurant and threatening its patrons with ketchup and mustard guns -- along with a tiny packet of hot sauce that he squirts into the mouth of one customer bold enough to object to his shenanigans. Batman soon arrives, takes one look at Condiment King's pickle hat and white underwear outfit, and correctly assumes that the self-proclaimed "Sultan of Sauce" is a newbie at super-villainy. Batman gives the Condiment King a chance to return the money, but the giddy "Prince of Pickles" trips from a rooftop and takes a tumble onto the roof of a police car below, ending up in the hospital.

The Condiment King's real name is revealed as Buddy Standler. A comedian who once unknowingly gave The Joker a negative reception in a stand-off comedy competition called "Laugh-Off," Buddy and his two other judge counterparts all became the subjects of the Clown Prince of Crime's ire. The Joker stole the Mad Hatter's mind control technology and planned to ruin all three men and drive them insane.

The memorable absurdity of the Condiment King soon propelled him into the Batman comics, where he first appeared in writer Chuck Dixon's stories, including Birds of Prey #37 and Batgirl: Year One.

The Batman, starring Pattinson as the titular Dark Knight and Kravitz as Catwoman, is currently playing in theaters and will arrive on HBO Max on April 19. An HBO Max spinoff show starring Colin Ferrell's Penguin has been greenlit, and discussions for potential sequels have begun. Thus far, there is no indication that Condiment King will make an appearance in director Matt Reeves' vision of Gotham City.
