Colin Farrell Loves His Oswald Cobblepot Prosthetics

The Penguin leading man Colin Farrell recently discussed why he wanted to work on the show, saying that he felt that he wasn't able to explore Oswald Cobblepot as much as he wanted to in The Batman. "There was all this extraordinary work done by [prosthetics artist Mike Moreno] and Mike Fontaine, his team," the actor said. "I just thought it was the tip of the iceberg, pardon the pun, that we were getting to do the six of seven scenes that we did in the film. I was grateful for [those scenes] but I wanted more."

As for how the series came together, Farrell explained that he spoke with producer Dylan Clark about it, who was similarly inspired by Moreno's prosthetic prowess. "Honest to God, any thoughts I had about an extended series was to do with Mike Moreno's work," he added. "I just think there's so much you can do with it. Age it up, age it down. He's just such a genius, Mike. So it was his work that was just an inspiration, really."

While Oz is the star of the show, executive producer Matt Reeves recently delved into how the show will lead into The Batman's sequel. "There's actually a whole little fabric of things we're wanting to do, the way we're doing with [the] Penguin and how that comes back into how that will lead into the sequel, and what that sequel is going to be," he said. A recent rumor also claimed that The Batman star Robert Pattinson will make an appearance in The Penguin.

The Penguin will premiere on HBO Max, though a release date has yet to be announced.
