Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman spinoff The Penguin has found its Sofia Falcone.

According to Deadline, Made For Love star Cristin Milioti has been cast as Sofia Falcone, the female lead opposite Colin Farrell in the HBO Max drama series The Penguin. Sofia is the daughter of Carmine Falcone, who was played by John Turturro in the 2022 film. The spinoff series will find Sofia fighting with Colin Farrell's Penguin for control of the city.

Although Milioti currently stars as Emma in the Peacock black comedy mystery series The Resort, she is perhaps best known for playing Tracy McConnell/"The Mother" in the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. She also appeared in the films The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) and Palm Springs (2020) and portrayed the lead female character in the HBO Max comedy series Made for Love, which was canceled after two seasons in June 2022.

Created by writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale, Sofia Falcone first appeared in 1997's Batman: The Long Halloween #6. A member of the Falcone crime family, Sofia assisted her father in unearthing the identity of the Holiday Killer, who was later unmasked to be Sofia's own brother Alberto Falcone. The character was previously brought to television on the Fox series Gotham, played by Crystal Reed. She also appeared in the DC animated original film, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two, voiced by Laila Berzins.

The Penguin Will Be Tasty and Unusual

While Farrell has remained tight-lipped when it comes to spoilers for the upcoming spinoff series, the actor has offered his thoughts on the pilot's script. "I read the first episode which was just so tasty and so unusual," he said earlier this month. Farrell will reprise his role as Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot/The Penguin in the HBO Max series, which will reportedly begin filming in New York in February 2023. The Penguin is the first of three spinoffs planned for HBO Max, with the other two focusing on Arkham Asylum and the Gotham City Police Department.

The Penguin was first announced in September 2021 by HBO Max, with Farrell confirmed to be reprising his role that December. The series will be executive produced by Reeves, Dylan Clark, Farrell, Lauren LeFranc and Craig Zobel. LeFranc also wrote and will serve as showrunner on the series while Craig Zobel will direct the first two episodes. At the time of writing, HBO Max has not announced a premiere date for The Penguin.
