The Batman director Matt Reeves is ready to make Warner Bros. his new home.

As reported by Deadline, Reeves and his 6th & Idaho production company have signed a multi-year first-look film deal with Warner Bros. He has become the first filmmaker to sign a first-look deal with the studio since Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy were hired by Warner Bros. Discovery to oversee the film division. Reeves has also re-upped his deal with the Warner Bros. Television Group. "Making this legendary studio my home is a dream," Reeves said in a statement. "I am so excited to be working with Mike, Pam, and Channing [Dungey, Chairman of Warner Bros. TV] and our teams to bring captivating stories I am truly passionate about to the big and small screen." Reeves and 6th & Idaho previously had a first-look film deal at Netflix.

The film deal will give Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema, Warner Animation Group and DC Films first-look rights to Reeves’ work as a writer, director and/or producer. De Luca and Abdy reportedly hope to see Reeves become a cornerstone filmmaker at the studio. "Someone like Matt, we’ll buy for him whatever he wants to do," De Luca stated. "We’re making an investment for whatever Matt feels a pull toward, in the Batman universe and otherwise. He has an open invitation to go wherever his interests take him. We’ll lean into whatever Matt wants to do. In terms of the writer/directors out there working in this very elevated genre space, with everything Matt’s done, from Let Me In to the Apes trilogy to The Batman, he’s in a class by himself."

Matt Reeves is Expanding The Batman Universe

Reeves so far has two Batman-related projects in the works: a sequel to 2022's The Batman and The Penguin series for HBO Max. He is currently co-writing the script for The Batman 2 with Mattson Tomlin. Reeves is also heavily involved in the planning stages for The Penguin, which is gearing up to start production shortly. The limited series will star Colin Farrell, who is reprising his role from The Batman as Oswald Cobblepot. A third Batman project, which is set in Gotham City's psychiatric hospital Arkham Asylum, is in discussion. The Batman 2 and The Penguin remain undated at this time.
