The Batman is on track for a massive opening, according to recent reports, with presale figures reaching double that of Marvel's Eternals on its first day.

Box office analysts reported that The Batman has seen the second-highest presales in the post-pandemic era, second only to Spider-Man: No Way Home. It is currently expected to earn between $110-140 million on opening. The most recent report posits sales of $8 million in less than a day, though it's worth noting a large portion of that is reportedly from early access screenings.

Furthermore, ticketing service Fandango also reported that, from among 2,000 moviegoers, 95 percent of audiences are excited to see Robert Pattinson's Batman. 92 percent are drawn to the focus on detective work in the upcoming film and, finally, 73 percent are keen to see Colin Farrell's take on the supervillain known as The Penguin.

For comparison, Eternals earned $2.6 million in the first day of presales and went on to earn $71 million over its opening weekend. The film unseated Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which grossed $1.4 million on its first day of presales. It's worth noting Shang-Chi was the first major blockbuster release exclusively in theaters after venues reopened, following an industry-wide shutdown.

Ultimately, Eternals failed to surpass Shang-Chi in worldwide box office earnings. In addition, the film failed to impress critics and has become the lowest-rated entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, going so far as to become the first film in the franchise to be given the 'rotten' rating on review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes.

Eternals and The Batman do share certain similarities in that both are distinct within their franchises and attempt to shed light on their respective superheroes from new angles. Both actor Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves have teased some of the new approaches The Batman will take with its characters and tone. Pattinson recently highlighted some of the differences between the traditional depiction of Batman/Bruce Wayne and that of the upcoming film.

The actor stated, "I've definitely found a little interesting thread. He doesn't have a playboy persona at all, so he's kind of a weirdo as Bruce and a weirdo as Batman... And I kept thinking there's a more nihilistic slant to it. 'Cause, normally, in all the other movies, Bruce goes away, trains, and returns to Gotham believing in himself, thinking, I'm gonna change things here. But in this, it's sort of implied that he's had a bit of a breakdown. But this thing he's doing, it's not even working."

The Batman is scheduled to hit screens on March 4.
