Anticipation for Matt Reeves' The Batman is at a fever pitch. With the reveal of Robert Pattinson's costume and Batmobile, fans have chafed at the bit to know more about the film's details. And according to one star, they're in for something new.

Jeffery Wright, who will portray Commissioner Gordon in the film, was a recent guest on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show. Talk turned to The Batman, with Wright discussing Reeves' take on the material and what he brings to the role of Gordon.

"My take is -- the way I explain what we're doing is, like with any film, we're working together to create a mood, to create an idea, a setting, a tone," Wright said. "This is the next evolution since 1939 when these stories began. This is the next evolution of Gotham. So I am working off the stage [director Matt Reeves] is providing and also working off what Robert is doing. We are trying to create something together that is our own, but is also Batman."

Wright's comments indicate that Reeves is looking to bring something new to the screen with his take on the Dark Knight. Given that Batman has been in nine live action films over the years, it makes sense that Reeves would be looking to balance familiar elements with a new take.
