Warner Bros. and DC Films' The Batman is now on HBO Max.
Rather than the previously reported April 19, The Batman arrived one day early: Monday, April 18.
In December 2021, outgoing WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar confirmed Warner Bros.' 45-day theater-to-streaming window would apply to The Batman. "Think about when movies would show up on HBO, which is eight to nine months after theatrical premiere," he said at the time. "The Batman is going to show up on day 46 on HBO Max... That is a huge change from where things were in 2018, 2017, 2016."
The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and sees him contend with the likes of Edward Nashton/The Riddler (Paul Dano), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro) and Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin (Colin Farrell). However, he's not alone in his caped crusade, as he's joined by Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) and Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright).
Opening in early March, The Batman has grossed $735.15 million worldwide thus far, with $359.05 of that cume coming from domestic ticket sales. The film has also wowed critics, with many praising its grim and gritty aesthetic and noir themes.
"It's a really, really unusual Batman story, and it almost seems harder for me to imagine it being a series afterwards [sic]," Pattinson previously explained while confirming the long-held belief that The Batman would set up one or more sequels. "I mean, they always have that little bit at the end, that's like: '...and coming up!' But other than that, it feels strangely personal. I think people will be quite shocked at how different it is."
"I've made a kind of map for where Bruce's psychology would grow over two more movies," he also noted. "I would love to do it." The Batman producer Dylan Clark similarly addressed his hopes for another movie at that time, saying, "As the first standalone Batman in 10 years, the hope is we can lay a foundation that you can build stories upon."
The Batman is now on HBO Max and available for purchase on digital platforms.
