While a number of The Batman spinoff series have been announced for HBO Max, director Matt Reeves says more could be on the horizon, including one focusing on Catwoman.

At a press conference attended by CBR, Reeves was asked about further expanding the universe of The Batman and whether a spinoff could be in the works for Zoë Kravitz's Selena Kyle. "I've talked to the HBO Max folks," the director and co-writer said. "What we're really trying to do is to launch this world. If the world embraces this, we have a lot of ideas for things we want to do, and for sure we want Selena to continue."

Reeves went on to discuss how central the connection between Kravitz's Selena and Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne/Batman is to the film, saying, "Their relationship and what they are to each other... to me, that's the heart of the movie, is the push-pull between the two of them and the way that she's going to evolve, and where all of that will go."

But while Reeves certainly seems keen to explore things further, he said it all depends on how well The Batman does when it finally hits theaters. "We're talking about a lot of things, but of course, all of it depends on... we're about to release this movie, and it really comes down to how people receive it," Reeves said.

Though a Catwoman continuation looks to depend on the success of the film, that hasn't been true for other spinoffs. During the many delays to the film, an HBO Max prequel series focusing on the Gotham City Police Department was ordered, and rumor has it Batman and the Joker will play a key role. As for the many rogues introduced in the movie, Penguin is getting his own show, with Colin Farrell reprising his role as the kingpin of Gotham. It's clear that Warner Bros. wants to capitalize on the film and build a new world of Batman-centric content outside of the main DCEU, and Kravitz's Catwoman feels like an obvious choice. After all, her character offers a different side of Gotham than fans have typically seen given how much Batman-adjacent stories often focus on the police or men in power.

Regardless of whether Catwoman gets a spinoff, Kravitz can be seen as Selena Kyle when The Batman hits theaters on March 4.
