Matt Reeves' The Batman launched several spinoffs that are currently in development at HBO Max, but one series centering on the Gotham City police department has since been scrapped and former showrunner Joe Barton opened up about its cancellation."Guess if you post your wins you should also post your losses," Barton said on Twitter about the series. "Sadly adding this to the 'ones that got away' column. It really would have been something special. Hope Matt [Reeves] gets to make it one day."RELATED: The Batman's Big Hallway Fight Was Shot With Practical Effects

The Batman's Gotham PD spinoff series was officially announced in 2020 with Reeves at the helm who, at the time, confirmed the untitled spinoff would serve as a prequel to the Robert Pattinson-led DC film. However, Reeves recently stated that the series since evolved into a spinoff focusing on Arkham Asylum, instead of Gotham's corrupt police force.

"The GCDP thing, that story has kinda evolved," the director explained. "We've actually now [moved] more into the realm of exactly what would happen in the world of Arkham as it relates coming off of our movie, and some of the characters… almost leaning into the idea of… it's like a horror movie or a haunted house that is Arkham." No showrunner has been announced for the Arkham show, but Barton confirmed on Twitter that he will not be involved.

Another spinoff of The Batman moving forward at HBO Max is the show featuring Colin Farrell's Penguin which, although not officially announced, has seemingly found its showrunner in writer/producer Lauren LeFranc. Not much else is known about the show as yet, although Farrell is confirmed to reprise his role as Oswald Cobblepot and will also act as an executive producer. Reeves has said that he originally pitched a Penguin origin story as an idea for a sequel film to The Batman, but Warner Bros. had a different approach. "And they were like, 'Oh, we want to do that as a show,'" Reeves explained.

There is also a possibility for Zoë Kravitz's Catwoman/Selina Kyle to receive her own spinoff show as well. According to Reeves, discussions have been held with HBO Max regarding a Catwoman show, but that will depend on The Batman's reception. "I've talked to the HBO Max folks," he said. "What we're really trying to do is to launch this world. If the world embraces this, we have a lot of ideas for things we want to do, and for sure we want Selena to continue."

The Batman is in theaters now.
