A new synopsis for The Batman hints at a massive change to the relationship between Batman and Catwoman's alter egos, Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle.

According to a synopsis released by the German company CinemaxX, Selina and Bruce may have known each other long before they became Batman and Catwoman. Per the synopsis, Gotham City has been "hit by a gruesome series of crimes" that the police are not able to deal with and while Bruce does what he can as the Dark Knight, he "also reaches his limits." Things only get more complicated when his "childhood friend" Selina reappears, creating "additional emotional confusion" for the Caped Crusader.

This is not the first report of The Batman changing a relationship between the eponymous superhero and a member of his supporting cast, as Alfred Pennyworth actor Andy Serkis revealed that Bruce and Alfred's own relationship will be different in the film. "Bruce is on this nihilistic journey, and they've pulled apart ... It's got to the point where they almost no longer talk," Serkis said. "If they bump into each other in the corridor, it's a very icy and painful greeting. They almost live in separate worlds now."

The Batman will partly explore the complex relationship between Catwoman and Batman, which was teased in new footage in a recent trailer for the film. In addition, the synopsis released by Warner Bros. seemingly implied that The Batman would include another villain, stating that an unidentified killer has begun going after "Gotham's elite with a series of sadistic machinations."

It was reported earlier this year that The Batman was greenlit for a sequel prior to its release. While The Batman was originally intended as a standalone film, leading man Robert Pattinson discussed his own plans for Bruce, which would be covered in two additional sequels. "I've made a kind of map for where Bruce's psychology would grow over two more movies," he said. "I would love to do it."

As for Catwoman, actor Zoë Kravitz stated that she studied lions to prepare for playing the Feline Fatale. "We watched cats and lions and how they fight and talked about what is actually possible when you're my size, and Batman's so much stronger than me," she said. "What is my skill? It's being fast and tricky. So we did some really interesting floor work that incorporated different kinds of martial arts and capoeira and a kind of feline, dance-like movement."

Dark, stylish retelling of the Dark Knight's fight against the crime in Gotham.

Gotham is being hit by a gruesome series of crimes that the police have long been unable to cope with. Bruce Wayne aka Batman does what he can, but also reaches his limits. The Penguin has a hand in it, but he is only one in the all-encompassing swamp of the city. The appearance of his childhood friend Selina Kyle alias Catwoman creates additional emotional confusion in the angry fighter for justice.

Directed and co-written by Matt Reeves, The Batman hits theaters on March 4, 2022.
