It was only recently that Keoghan, whose casting was announced in 2020, was speculated to be Joker. The Batman already has several classic supervillains from the detective's rogues' gallery, including The Riddler, the Penguin and Catwoman. Some fans believe the film will also introduce yet another iteration of the Joker, following actor Jared Leto's portrayal in the DCEU. There are numerous popular fan castings, such as Kristen Stewart, which the actor herself seemed somewhat apprehensive about. Stewart previously responded to social media posts, saying, "It's really been done so well. I feel like, maybe, we don't traipse over, but I love that gusto. Let's figure something else out. I'm totally down to play a freaky, scary person." She quickly added, "[That's] not [a definitive] 'no,' but not the most stoked I've ever been... Let's do something new."

So far, the trailers for The Batman have provided no evidence that the Joker will appear and centered almost exclusively on Batman's battle against The Riddler. The film revolves around the Dark Knight's early days as a vigilante and introduces several unique takes on classic characters, including the aforementioned Catwoman, Riddler and Commissioner Gordon.

The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
