The Batman director Matt Reeves has revealed an important piece of advice that Christian Bale imparted to the newest Batman actor, Robert Pattinson, in regards to the character's iconic Batsuit.

"One of the big things that Rob actually talked to Christian Bale and Christian Bale was like, 'Just make sure you're going to be able to relieve yourself,'" Reeves said during the DC FanDome panel for The Batman. "So all of that was actually part of what was important to build in, too, which is like, 'Okay, he needs to be able to put it on, but he also needs to be able to live as a human being."

On the topic of Pattinson's Batsuit, Reeves also talked about how the outfit reflects that The Batman chronicles a less experienced version of this character. "One of the things about this batsuit is that it is very practical. The whole idea is that he's made it himself," Reeves explained. "So we needed to be able to sort of see how it would fit on him in these ways that he could move, but also looked like it was something that was still evolving. Even the idea of the story, he's in year two, so he's been wearing it. He goes every night, looking for trouble, so you look at his cowl, and you can actually see there are gashes in it."

The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves and co-written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. The film stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson. The Batman is set to be released in theaters on Oct. 1, 2021.
