Marvel Cinematic Universe star Dave Bautista responded to fan speculation on social media that, against his best efforts, he will not be playing the role of Bane in Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman.Rumors surrounding Bautista and the venom-driven Batman villain began circling last December, when the actor tweeted a photo outside the Warner Bros. studio lot with the caption, "It won't come to you so get after it!! #DreamChaser." More recently, Bautista finally responded to speculation after fans asked to make it happen. Bane was previously portrayed in 1997 by professional wrestler Robert Swenson in Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin and, more recently, in 2012 by Tom Hardy in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. It is unclear if the supervillain will appear in The Batman. Either way, Bautista will not be joining the DC universe as of yet. Bautista is best known for playing Drax the Destroyer in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves, co-written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. The film stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/ Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/ Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/ The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/ The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Peter Sarsgaard and District Attorney Gil Colson. The Batman is set to be released in theaters on October 1, 2021.
