The latest issue of The Riddler: Year One has confirmed that Metropolis exists in The Batman Universe.

In The Riddler: Year One #2 (via The Direct), a woman is shown waiting for a train and holding tickets that will take her to Metropolis -- a city in the DC Comics Universe that is best known as the home of Superman, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor and the Daily Planet, among others. While Superman's existence in The Batman Universe remains unknown, the comic pays homage to the character by having the ticket be the same colors as Superman's logo.

The Riddler: Year One is a six-issue comic book limited series written by Paul Dano, illustrated by Stevan Subic and published under DC's adult-oriented Black Label imprint. Year One is a tie-in prequel to Matt Reeves' 2022 film The Batman and was originally conceived by Dano -- who played Edward Nashton/Riddler -- during the DC film's production. The limited series focuses on Edward Nashton's life and his descent into criminality as the Riddler before the events of the film. The series' first two issues were released on October 25 and December 27, with subsequent issues set to be released on a bimonthly schedule.

The Batman 2 Is in the Works

Following the critical and commercial success of The Batman, Warner Bros. announced in April 2022 that a sequel was in development, with Reeves and Robert Pattinson set to return as director and Bruce Wayne/Batman, respectively. Mattson Tomlin -- who worked on the first film's script in an uncredited capacity -- was confirmed to be co-writing the script for The Batman 2 with Reeves in August 2022. In addition to The Batman 2, Reeves is developing several spinoff films that will focus on both well-known and obscure Batman villains like Scarecrow, Clayface and Professor Pyg.

Three spinoff series set in The Batman Universe are also in various stages of development, with The Penguin, a limited series set one week following the events of The Batman, scheduled to begin production in February 2023. Colin Farrell will reprise his role from the 2022 film as the title character, Oswald Cobblepot, with Cristin Milioti set to portray the series' lead antagonist Sofia Falcone, the daughter of the late Carmine Falcone (played by John Turturro in The Batman). The other two series planned for HBO Max will reportedly focus on Arkham Asylum and the Gotham City Police Department.
