The Dark Knight invokes the wrath of the GCPD in a new official clip from Matt Reeves' fast-approaching DC film The Batman.

A never-before-scene clip from The Batman was revealed as part of lead actor Robert Pattinson's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. In it, Batman (Pattinson) meets with Lt. James "Jim" Gordon (Jeffrey Wright). The World's Greatest Detective deduces that one of Gordon's officers actually works for the Penguin (Colin Farrell). Batsy then lays Gordon out with a right hook, at which point the entire Gotham City Police Department gives chase, culminating in an intense set piece where Batman grapples up a stairwell while being shot at from every direction.

Centering on a reclusive, Kurt Cobain-esque version of Bruce Wayne, The Batman follows the titular vigilante as he attempts to hunt down the Riddler (Paul Dano), a serial killer targeting Gotham City's elite citizens. Riddler isn't the only member of Batman's rogues gallery appearing in the film, however, with likes of the Penguin and Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) also factoring into the story.

Reeves' film takes place during Bruce's second year of fighting crime as Batman, meaning this take on the Caped Crusader is still relatively inexperienced. Similarly, The Batman's version of Jim Gordon is still only a Lieutenant for the GCPD, having not yet been promoted to the rank of Commissioner (which the character is most synonymous with in the comics and other films).

Wright previously discussed the relationship his Gordon has with Pattinson's Batman. "My Gordon is very much partnered with Rob's Batman," he told Total Film magazine. "And so there is, as [The Dark Knight Trilogy star] Gary Oldman once described it, very much a Watson to the Batman's Holmes in our storytelling. He's still Lieutenant. He's not Commissioner yet. So it gave the character the opportunity to really dip his hands into the muck, and be up to his elbows, and be very much in the thick of things."

Given the fact that the Dark Knight and the future Commissioner seem to be on good terms in The Batman, some fans are already speculating that the punch in the new clip shouldn't necessarily be taken at face value, and was perhaps part of an agreement between the two characters. At any rate, there seems to be no love lost between Batman and the rest of the GCPD.

The Batman premieres in theaters on March 4.
