It was recently announced that Ben Affleck will reprise the role of Batman for the upcoming The Flash movie, starring Affleck's DC Extended Universe co-star Ezra Miller. This is in spite of the fact that the DCEU has a new Dark Knight, played by Robert Pattinson in Matt Reeves' The Batman.

According to TheWrap, Affleck's return to the DCEU won't impact Reeves' film. The report added that Pattinson's portrayal of the Caped Crusader is still very much seen as the franchise's future. Affleck debuted as Batman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and made subsequent appearances in Suicide Squad and Justice League. Affleck was also set to write and star in The Batman before leaving for personal reasons.

Affleck will also appear in Zack Snyder's Justice League, a re-cut of the film with Snyder at the helm. In addition, veteran Batman actor Michael Keaton -- who last played the character in 1992's Batman Returns -- will join Affleck and Miller for The Flash.

Directed by Andy Muschietti with a script by Christina Hodson, The Flash stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. It is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 3, 2022.

The Batman is directed by Matt Reeves and co-written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. The film stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/ Batman, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/ Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/ The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/ The Riddler, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone and Peter Sarsgaard as District Attorney Gil Colson. The Batman is set to be released in theaters on October 1, 2021.
