The Batman – Part II includes classic supervillain Clayface in a major role, if a new report is to be believed.

The report comes via Deadline. It cites unnamed sources close to the production who claim that Clayface is a "big addition" to the latest draft of director Matt Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin's screenplay for The Batman – Part II. Deadline's sources didn't elaborate further on Clayface's supposed role in the plot, nor did they specify which incarnation of the shape-shifting baddie Reeves and Tomlin have settled on. That said, as DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures are both yet to comment on the report, Clayface's alleged involvement in The Batman – Part II should be taken with a grain of salt for now.

However, it's worth noting that speculation Clayface will appear in the sequel to The Batman ties into related buzz regarding a possible solo outing headlined by the legendary Bat-villain. Insiders maintain that Midnight Mass creator Mike Flanagan and his producing partner Trevor Macy recently met with DC Studios co-chairs and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran to pitch a Clayface movie. The film would apparently recast Clayface in a more heroic light than his DC Comics counterpart. Gunn and Safran are supposedly still mulling over whether to move forward with the project, which may or may not tie into The Batman – Part II.

Midnight Mass Creator Discusses His Clayface Movie

If reports of Flanagan and Macy's meeting with Gunn and Safran are indeed accurate, this would mark the second time that Flanagan has tried to get a Clayface solo movie off the ground. The Doctor Sleep director recalled his pitch to Warner Bros.'s previous regime in an episode of the Script Apart podcast. "I really want[ed] to do Clayface," he said. "I went in and said, 'You know, if you want to do some horror-leaning DC stuff, boy do I have a great take on Clayface. I'd love to do that movie.' And then if not, I wanted to talk about Scarecrow and Justice League Dark and Constantine."

Flanagan added that he also expressed interest in helming a Superman film during his original pitch meeting, as the Man of Steel was his favorite superhero growing up. However, it seems unlikely that he pushed for such a project during his meeting with Gunn and Safran, given the former is already locked in to write and direct Superman: Legacy.
