The reviews for Disney+'s Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 are in, with most critics agreeing that the new season successfully ups the stakes for Clone Force 99 while also expanding and filling in the Star Wars canon.

The new season of The Bad Batch has been deemed a vast improvement by most critics, with many noting how Season 2 triumphs over Season 1 by featuring better storytelling and character development. CBR's own William Jones writes that the "two-episode premiere thrusts viewers right back into the world of these beloved clones with propulsive speed and emotional heft, making for an exceedingly entertaining hour of television." He also praises voice actor Dee Bradley Baker, who "plays over a dozen characters between these two episodes, imbuing each with individuality despite their outward similarities."

Despite the mostly positive reception to the new season, there were some valid criticisms, with Inverse's Ryan Britt noting how the show "seems keener and keener on retconning Palpatine’s entire plan in Revenge of the Sith" by introducing more Clones that were against Order 66, even if they obeyed it. He questions the decision, writing, "We’re now supposed to believe that many of those people who murdered the Jedi at the drop of a hat are not only remorseful but also part of a vast Imperial conspiracy that isn’t their fault?" He explains that "because the murder of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire is such a huge pivot point in Star Wars history, knowing more about all of that is starting to get a bit messy."

Omega Continues to Be a Highlight

Jesse B. Gill, writing for IGN, states that there is "lots for fans to enjoy" in the new season even if the mission-to-mission arcs "get a little repetitive as the season moves on." In her review for Collider, Maggie Lovitt writes that The Bad Batch is "at its strongest when Omega is learning more about herself, the Batch, and the galaxy’s oppression and treatment of Clones," explaining how "[w]atching her childlike naïveté slowly be stripped away really underscores the perils of this period of time for anyone, regardless of whether they’re rebels or a band of clones." She concludes by stating that The Bad Batch Season 2 is "a welcome return to Star Wars' animated world."

Set "a couple of months" after the events on Kamino, The Bad Batch Season 2 picks up with the titular team continuing their journey navigating the Empire after the fall of the Republic. Throughout the 16-episode season, they will cross paths with friends and foes, both new and familiar, as they take on a variety of thrilling mercenary missions that will take them to unexpected and dangerous new places.

Baker returns as the voice of Clone Force 99 -- Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, Crosshair and Echo -- and as Captain Rex in Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2, with Michelle Ang also reprising her role as the voice of Omega.
