The morning begins with several “Avengers” items. First, The Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog asked Chris Hemsworth about those leaked script pages. “My start date is still the same. I think it was a pretty old script, though,” the actor answered. “I got off the plane the other day and I found that out, but I know that script changed a lot, so it’s not the most recent version of it anyway.” He also discussed how the character will differ from his first solo outing. “He’s sort of matured in some way, and now you don’t want to repeat the same mistakes in the character; you want to do something different,” he explained. “So that’s also a thing – the challenge is in doing sequels is you can’t go through the same arc again, and you want to sort of approach it with a new maturity that makes a new challenge in some way to it.”
Returning to those script pages for a moment, rumors floated around the blogsphere about the production shutting down so the leaked scenes could be rewritten. Marvel sent IGN a statement on the matter: “Filming on ‘The Avengers’ is on schedule and going well.”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige tells The Playlist an announcment about the film slate going into 2013 is coming “towards the end of the summer.” So what sorts of films are they thinking about? “There’s no definitive plans, but we have started talking and talking with Scarlett about what a ‘[Black] Widow’ movie could be,” said Feige. “Internally we’ve also started thinking what a ‘Hawkeye’ movie could be, how we could continue to explore the organization S.H.I.E.L.D, which has a pretty big part in ‘Thor,’ smaller parts in the two ‘Iron Man’ films and has a giant part in ‘The Avengers.'” He certainly knows how to tease the future, don’t you think?
Lastly, Mark Ruffalo wears Hulk Hands for MTV News:
Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
A source gives Batman on Film a loose shooting schedule for the production:
* The shoot in India is a short one.
* Filming in Pittsburgh is only going to last about 3 weeks.
* Back overseas for a shoot in the UK and then probably headed to NYC.
* Most of the filming looks to be taking place in LA — studio/soundstage work he assumes.
Also, if you’re interested in being a stand-in or extra when the film comes to LA, BOF links to the casting details at Acting Auditions.
Release date: July 20th, 2012
Karl Urban offers Collider an update on “Dredd,” amongst other upcoming films:
Release date: TBA
Director Kenneth Branagh discusses the eventual DVD release with MTV News:
Meanwhile, actor Idris Elba talked to The Los Angeles Times about the silly controversy that surrounded his casting. “Purist comic-book fans are one thing; out-and-out racism is another,” the actor says. Elba also mentioned his part in “Ghost Rider: Spirits of Vengeance,” saying, “There is some fighting, but in the end he resorts to a gun … I kind of adopted an Algerian French accent for that role and had a great time doing it. I liked playing that part.”
Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 6th, 2011
Comic Continuum has a brief on-set interview with co-star Maggie Q about the world of the film and her character:
Release date: May 13th, 2011
WAY OF THE RAT
China’s Global Times (via MTV News) reports the Crossgen series is headed to the big screen as part of a China/US/Canada production partnership. “With a budget of $94 million, it is set to begin shooting later this year for a Christmas release,” they write. Here’s how MTV describes the comic book: “[It] followed a thief named Boon Sai Hong who runs across more than he bargained for by stealing two objects with magical properties. Along the way he gains a talking monkey named Pop Po as an advisor and the criminal element of the Asian-based world out to get him.” Yeah, I can see why someone would want to make a movie out of that.
Release date: TBA
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
At first, I thought it was loose green-screen suit, but if you look carefully, there is some sort of make-up appliance on the actor’s face.
Release date: May 28th, 2012
LOCKE & KEY
According to Deadline, the pilot may not go to series. “I hear Fox’s new crop of dramas may not include a sci-fi entry this year as both ‘Locke & Key’ and ‘Alcatraz’ have cooled off,” writes Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva. Fox has a complicated relationship with genre material, as any fan of “Firefly” can tell you. With “Fringe” renewed for another season, the network may be reluctant to spend the money needed to launch another sci-fi themed show.
The CW added this clip from Friday’s episode “Prophecy” to their YouTube account:
GREEN LANTERN’S GEAR
So, I received this rather curious package the other day:
Inside, loads of “Green Lantern” swag:
Included in the package were Hal Jordan and Kilowog toys, a ring game, an “adult size” GL ring, the “Colossal Cannon” toy, and much more. Perhaps the most interesting item is the “Green Lantern” Converse All-Stars. Here’s a photo of the display I hastily put together during the un-boxing:
