Disney has confrimed it will retain the May 4th, 2012 release date for the film, according to Heat Vision. That date had been set by Paramount when they controlled the release and distribution of “The Avengers,” but Disney took over that role for both the film and “Iron Man 3” earlier this week.
Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012

Though it’s been an open secret for sometime, Martin Freeman has been confirmed as Bilbo Baggins in the two-part film. According to our pals at Spinoff Online, a good number of the company of Dwarves has also been cast.
Richard Armitage (MI-5, Captain America: The First Avenger) as Thorin Oakenshield, leader of the dwarves; Aiden Turner (Being Human) and Rob Kazinsky (EastEnders) as Thorin’s nephews Kili and Fili; Graham McTavish (Secretariat, 24) as Dwalin; John Callen (Power Rangers Jungle Fury) as Oin; Stephen Hunter (All Saints) as Bombur; Mark Hadlow (King Kong) as Dori; and Peter Hambleton (The Strip) as Gloin.
Armitage is kind of a young guy, but its not impossible to age him up under all that Dwarven make-up and beard. One role yet to be filled is that Thranduil, the Wood-Elf Kind. Rumors suggest former Doctor Who David Tennant is up for that role. Meanwhile, the tension in New Zealand over the union crisis and the production’s possible departure from the country is still quite heated as this video with a visibly agitated Peter Jackson (via Collider) can atest:

ALL STAR SUPERMAN
Dwayne McDuffie tells Ed Gross there is an important through-line in the direct-to-video film. “Superman is such a redemptive force, and one of the great things about the book and, I hope, the film, is that everyone who he comes into contact with has their lives made better. It’s not like he keeps them from getting killed in a bank robbery, he flies away and they have a good cocktail story. He transforms them in a fundamental way, and as he prepares for his death, he also transforms the world in a fundamental way,” he says.

THE WALKING DEAD
The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex blog has an interview with Sarah Wayne Callies, who plays Lori Grimes on the show. “Let’s be honest, we’re closer to the apocalypse than we think, which is why I think ‘The Walking Dead’ is a proxy. I don’t know a lot of people in L.A. who, having lived in L.A., walk around with a daily awareness [that] today could be the day we have an earthquake and half of us die and the city’s on fire and we have riots and looting and life as we know it changes. Most of us don’t take that on board on a day-to-day basis because you’d go crazy. You can turn on your TV, and it’s a safe way to look at that and then turn it off and put it back in its box. I think that survival stories are interesting for those reasons; they’re at arm’s length,” she says. She also suggests fans of other AMC shows like “Mad Men” give “The Walking Dead” three episodes to decide if they like it.
Kryptonsite has the full synopsis for the November 12th episode “Ambush.” There are plenty of spoilers, so proceed with caution. Meanwhile, stars Tom Welling and Erica Durance talk with TV Guide about the (immediate) future of Lois and Clark as a couple. “The writers have done a really great job in creating that arc to build up to the end of the season,” says Durance.

Cue up “Kickboxing Academy” and get me a Milky Way (yes, it’s a drink) — it’s the weekend! It’s also time for one of those bad movie days I attend from time to time, featuring such films as the aforementioned “Kickboxing Academy” and “Breakin’.” Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of Halloween week.
