Infinite Rabbit Holes, the award-winning creators of Why So Serious? and Year Zero, has launched a countdown to a Kickstarter campaign for an upcoming mixed reality game based on DC's Batman characters titled The Arkham Asylum Files: Panic in Gotham City.

According to the announcement video, Panic in Gotham City combines elements of escape rooms, augmented reality and tabletop board games to create a wildly-new gaming experience. Players must piece together clues while dealing with mayhem caused by the Joker as they traverse through Gotham City in a mixed reality adventure, encountering a number of the Dark Knight's most infamous foes - including one Harley Quinn - along the way.

"Unbox the adventure and conquer fun challenges devised by THE JOKER, as you dig through evidence and interact with over a hundred artifacts and game pieces to solve epic mysteries," teases the game's website. The set features over 100 game pieces and unique artifacts, including evidence documents, mysterious artifacts and collectibles exclusive to The Arkham Asylum Files, such as Batman and Joker masks. The set includes a buildable Gotham City which players will construct on their table, using their phones to explore the streets and alleyways of the infamous locale as they uncover secrets invisible to the naked eye.

Infinite Rabbit Holes has yet to reveal a detailed look at the game outside of the teaser trailer, but CBR will be back later this week with an exclusive in-depth look at The Arkham Aslyum Files. Beyond our preview of the tabletop gaming experience, the development team will discuss what went into its creation and its unique twists on the traditional ARG experience ahead of the Kickstarter's official launch.

Infinite Rabbit Holes is no stranger to building fan-favorite Batman augmented reality games, having created the popular Why So Serious? ARG which promoted Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. That game led fans on a real-world scavenger hunt to help Christian Bale's Batman defeat Heath Ledger's Joker, involving messages written in the sky, phone numbers and more. In the end, over 11 million people participated in the game as it spent a year building anticipation and interest in what would eventually become an Oscar-winning sequel. While Panic in Gotham City's gameplay will be relegated to your kitchen table rather than the streets of Los Angeles and New York, the promo video indicates it will be no less inventive and engaging.

The Arkham Asylum Files: Panic in Gotham City's Kickstarter goes live on May 31, and CBR's interview with its creators arrives later this week.
