When Alex Segura, Matt Rosenberg and Joe Eisma's new ongoing series The Archies was announced back in July, it was also revealed that the series would include guest appearances from some of Segura and Rosenberg's favorite bands. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the band out of Riverdale will run into the iconic sixties group The Monkees in issue #4.

The meeting between The Archies and The Monkees will take place thanks to some good, 'ol fashion time travel, which will allow Archie and the Riverdale gang to meet the Monkees -- Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, David 'Davy' Jones -- in their prime.

For series co-writer Matt Rosenberg, getting to bring The Monkees to Riverdale is "surreal." "I can't believe how lucky we are to have The Monkees in the book," he said. "They were the first band I ever saw live when I was a kid and More of the Monkees was the first tape I ever bought with my own money. Getting the chance to put them side by side with The Archies, two classic bands that blur the line between fiction and fact, is a real and surreal honor."

Mark Pinkus, the president of Rhino Entertainment, owns the rights to The Monkees name, logo and back catalog -- which he acquired back in 1994 -- and sees the inclusion of the band as a way to introduce the group to new fans. "What a great opportunity to expose a whole new audience to the classic music and antics of The Monkees," he said in a statement. "I look forward to seeing Micky, Davy, Mike, and Peter in Riverdale!"

According to the official solicitation for the issue, "Still soaring from last issue’s sage advice from Chvrches, Archie is eager to take his friends to the next level musically on their first-ever tour. But an unexpected turn of events finds them in the swingin' sixties — face to face with rock/pop icons The Monkees!" Written by Segura and Rosenberg with art from Joe Eisma, Matt Herms and Jack Morelli, the issue will feature three covers one by Eisma, another by Greg Smallwood and a third from Laura Martin.

The Archies #1 goes on sale tomorrow, October 4 for $3.99. Chvrches will make their guest appearance in issue #2, due to be released Nov. 8.
