The Amazing Spider-Man On Track to Swing in With $125 Million Debut

Columbia Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-Man is expected to open north of $125 million over the six-day July 4 holiday, according to The Hollywood Reporter, making it second only to Marvel’s The Avengers in the summer blockbuster season.

Director Marc Webb’s franchise reboot is generating strong interest with males of all ages and females under 25; it’s appealing somewhat less with older women. It’s so far received mixed but generally positive reviews overseas.

The Amazing Spider-Man opens July 3, a little more than five years after the release of director Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, whose $151.1 million debut in May 2007 set a three-day record (it’s since slipped to fifth place). Spider-Man 2 opened in the same six-day holiday frame in 2004, raking in $180 million (about $219 million when adjusted for inflation).

The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Campbell Scott, C. Thomas Howell, Embeth Davidtz and Annie Parisse.
