While Green Arrow and the Canaries won't be picked up as a spinoff series, The 100's unnamed prequel show may still have a fighting chance on more than one platform.

According to a report by Deadline, it was briefly considered that Green Arrow and the Canaries and The 100 spin-off would air on both The CW and HBO Max due to The CW's streaming deal with Netflix coming to an end. This will no longer be the case for Canaries, which would have followed the adventures of Oliver Queen's adult daughter Mia, Dinah Drake and Laurel Lance in the year 2049, but The 100 remains in limbo in terms of network interest.

"They are very much in active discussions to see what we can do," CW President Mark Pedowitz revealed about the shows' futures back in May. "I've had many discussions with Warner Bros, we have a strategy involved -- hopefully, we can pull it off."

Aired during its seventh and final season, The 100's eight-episode "Anaconda" served as a backdoor pilot exploring the immediate aftermath of Earth's nuclear destruction 97 years ago. The episode followed Second Dawn cult leader Bill Cadogan (John Pyper-Ferguson), his daughter Callie (Iola Evans), and various other characters who avoided death thanks to Cadogan's bunker and, years later, discovered Becca Franco after her escape pod reached the ground. Though an alliance is initially formed, it soon falls apart after Becca uses the Flame to activate Cadogan's Anomaly Stone and, traumatized by what she saw, refuses to share the Stone's activation code with him. As a result, Cadogan had Becca burned at the stake, but not before she gave Callie the Flame and vials of nightblood to make the survivors immune to nuclear radiation.

Should the prequel be greenlit by the CW, it's unclear how far into the future it will pick up after "Anaconda" or what it will be called, though series creator Jason Rothenberg previously proposed the title, Second Dawn. The episode ended with Callie leading a revolt to reach the surface while in possession of the Flame -- making her The 100's first Flamekeeper -- with her mother Grace (Crystal Balint) and brother Reese (Adain Bradley) pursuing the group for different reasons, potentially planting the seeds of how the twelve Grounder clans were formed. Meanwhile, Bill led his remaining followers through the Stone to planet Bardos, thus explaining the origins of Season 7's Disciples and why the bunker was discovered empty in Season 4.

The 100 stars Eliza Taylor, Marie Avgeropoulos, Bob Morley, Lindsey Morgan, Richard Harmon, Tasya Teles, Shannon Kook and J.R. Bourne. The show is available to stream on The CW's app/website and on Netflix.
