While The 100 may be coming to an end with its seventh season, there have been plans by the show's creative team to launch a spinoff prequel series set 97 years before the start of the main show. The eighth episode of The 100's final season aired as a backdoor pilot episode for the prequel, showing the villainous Bill Cadogan's children navigating the post-apocalyptic landscape in the immediate aftermath of the world being hit by nuclear armageddon.

Since the episode aired, there has been no word on whether The CW has officially picked up the pilot for a full series, but now, The 100 series creator and showrunner Jason Rothenberg has provided a quick update on the spinoff's status.

"I wish I could say yes to that. We're in the same kind of holding pattern, waiting for the powers that be to decide," Rothenberg told CBR. "If there's any good news, it's just that they're still talking about it. To me, that's good news. We have a pulse."

Tying into The 100 Season 7's overarching story, the prequel backdoor pilot provided the backstory and motivations of Cadogan as he resurfaced in the present to menace the main characters. With the possibility of a prequel following his children, audiences may get a chance to return to the world of The 100 after the main series' conclusion.

The 100 stars Eliza Taylor, Marie Avgeropoulos, Bob Morley, Lindsey Morgan, Richard Harmon, Tasya Teles, Shannon Kook and J.R. Bourne. The series airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
