After seven seasons, The CW's popular sci-fi series The 100 has finally come to an end, bringing the post-apocalyptic story to an epic conclusion.

Lindsey Morgan, who starred for the entire seven-season run as tech specialist Raven Reyes, was drawn to the role because it was a character defined by her intelligence and aptitude rather than her looks and relationships. While not necessarily drawn to the television series for being part of the sci-fi genre, Morgan noted that the genre itself was more prone to have strong female characters than others, also informing her decision to join the new film Skylines.

"It was the first role where I felt this character isn't informed by the way she looks and it wasn't about how pretty she was or not pretty she was or who liked her or who didn't like her, it didn't matter! It was more about her being a badass and super-smart and saving the day," Morgan recalled. "I found those roles that I'm drawn to happen to be in sci-fi more -- this was like a decade ago, back when I first started The 100 -- but I felt like these amazing roles like Sigourney Weaver in Alien playing Ripley had to be in sci-fi that we had these strong female characters and that was a bummer to me. I guess I was drawn to these more substantial roles for women and they just happened to be in the sci-fi genre. I think that's changing now, I think we're all seeing that change and seeing so much more complex roles for women which I'm so happy about, but it wasn't anything necessarily where I had to do sci-fi."

With the production on the final season coming to a close as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic spread into North America, Morgan didn't have the opportunity to truly reflect on her time with The 100 ending until she began work on her upcoming series Walker.

"We were wrapping right when the whole world was shutting down for the pandemic so it felt very post-apocalyptic so it was kind of wild, I felt kind of prepared for this, it was crazy and of course this is the way we go out," Morgan continued. "It's a surreal feeling that didn't really hit me until I started this new TV show and not with a feeling that I'm never going to be Raven Reyes again, I'm never going to be in her brilliant mind and figure out things the way she would and just live that life. It made me pretty nostalgic and sad because she's such a badass but, as weird as it sounds, she lives inside of me so she's a big part of me and she was a big part of my 20s and the woman I've grown up to be, I attribute a lot to her and being inspired by her and being challenged by her to be smarter, be stronger, be braver. I think I'd be a very different person if I didn't get a chance to play her and I didn't realize that until it was all said and done."

Written, directed and produced by Liam O'Donnell, Skylines stars Lindsey Morgan, Jonathan Howard, Daniel Bernhardt, Rhona Mitra, James Cosmo and Alexander Siddig. The film is available in select theaters, on demand and digital now.
