WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Season 6, Episode 8 of The 100, "The Old Man and the Anomaly," which premiered Tuesday on The CW.

Sacrifice has been a long-running theme on The 100, with many characters giving up their lives and well-being for their friends and for the greater good. Two characters make a similar sacrifice play in the latest episode of the post-apocalyptic series resulting in one major character being gravely wounded while another is revived albeit at a tremendous cost.

Ever since arriving on Sanctum, Jordan Green's life has gone through a hellish wringer of trials and tribulations. He had quickly struck up a romance with one of the inhabitants, Delilah, only for her to undergo a mind-transfer process by the Primes, the rulers of Sanctum revered by others as deities walking among them. The process of replacing Delilah's consciousness with the Prime Priya apparently eliminated any traces of Delilah, and Jordan has been coming to terms with the heartbreaking revelation of losing his first love.

Desperately clinging on to the hope that saving Delilah is still possible, Jordan sets out to confront the leading Primes only to be caught in the middle of an assassination attempt. Madi, the current Red Queen and Keeper of the Flame, a cybernetic implant with the memories of all of the previous warrior rulers on Earth following the apocalypse, has been suffering from visions urging her to kill. Without Clarke to calm her mind and help her deal with the apparitions and seeking revenge for her adoptive mother's apparent death, Madi quietly stalks Primes throughout the community, striking with the deadly efficiency of a slasher-movie villain.

Madi sets her sights on Simone, the mother of Josephine, the Prime possessing Clarke's body. Sneaking into Simone and her husband Russell's home, Madi prepares to stab Simone to death only to be intercepted by Jordan in mid-lunge. Jordan's instinctive, heroic action despite his anger with the Simone and Russell, causes him to accidentally be stabbed by Madi as she comes to her senses. Appalled by the growing violence and murder of a fellow Prime by Madi, Simone and Russell decide to banish the other visitors from Earth rather than help them build a settlement while deciding to help Jordan recuperate due to his sacrifice.

News of the mind-transfer process, through use of Sanctum's algae, has reached the Eligius IV's lead physician, Abby Griffin. Desperate to save the life of her love interest Marcus Kane, suffering from a deadly infection and put into cryosleep to prevent the infection from spreading, Abby agrees to transfer Kane's mind to a new body in order to save some semblance of him, no matter the cost. A young, unreasonably jacked man sacrifices his own life as tribute and the transfer is a success, apparently saving Kane's consciousness at the expense of another. However, after viewing his own lifeless body nearby, Kane realizes this his revival may have come at an unintended price.

One of the big themes of The 100 is how far one will go to stay alive and survive. That axiom has carried over to a world of potential immortality as the Primes of Sanctum extend their lifespans beyond their physical forms by possessing other host bodies for generations. With Jordan's condition unknown and Kane in a new body, the next two characters to undergo a transfer may find themselves unwitting and unwilling to pay that price.
