The moderators of a Reddit forum dedicated to Thanos plan to ban half of its members on July 9, in a tribute to the Mad Titan's ultimate goal in Marvel's Avengers: Inifinity War: to bring balance to the universe by wiping half of all life from existence.

With the tagline “Perfectly balanced, as all things should be,” it didn’t take long before the Thanos Did Nothing Wrong subreddit came up with the idea for a random ban of 50 percent of its members. According to Polygon, there were about 20,000 subscribers to the fledgling subreddit when the idea was propose, but thousands more came flooding in afterward.

The members seem enthusiastic about the prospect of being digitally dusted, but many pointed out that such an act might run afoul of Reddit’s administrators. After holding a vote – the thread received 150,000 upvotes, more than the 120,000 members at the time – moderator The-Jedi-Apprentice went to the administrators to see if this mass ban could happen. After some back and forth, they agreed.

The act, however, will be significantly more involved than simply snapping one’s fingers.

“As you all know,” The-Jedi-Apprentice wrote, “I was in talks with one of the admins of Reddit. He told me that doing a massive ban the day before July 4 was a terrible idea, because many of Reddit’s engineers would be out with their families. Also, the engineers would not be prepared for a mass ban so close to it .However, I presented a solution to these two problems, and I now have their permission to ban half of the sub! The random 50% ban will take place on July 9. The admins are designing a bot for me that will allow me to do the job in a quick and easy manner.”

As of today, there are slightly fewer than 300,000 members in the subreddit, with more continuing to pour in for a chance of being wiped out. Reddit admins, meanwhile, are working on the technical fallout, as a mass ban of almost 150,000 people would easily be the largest in the website's history.

But don’t worry: Those banned can still hang out with their fellow victims in the r/inthesoulstone subreddit. Maybe they’ll even run into Gamora.

Still in theaters, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston, Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin.
