WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Thanos Legacy #1 by Donny Cates, Brian Level, Jordan Boyd and Clayton Cowles, in stores now.

Thanos may be gone, but he's not yet done plaguing the Marvel Universe. In the opening moments of the Marvel cosmic event Infinity Wars, the Mad Titan was killed by his daughter Gamora. Then, in Thanos Legacy #1, we learned that not only did he know that Gamora was coming for him, he also effectively let himself die with a smile. While that is definitely a curious decision for the character, we came to realize that this does appear to just be another part of his plan. In order to prevent his disappointing future self from ever coming into being, Thanos let himself die. And, by doing so, he has put the entire cosmos in jeopardy once again.

In the closing moments of Thanos Legacy #1, Eros showed up to cut his brother's will out of his body. By doing so, he explained that he was preventing a specific endgame from coming to fruition -- something that would ignite a cataclysmic intergalactic war. But what could it be? What could be on Thanos' last will and testament that could threaten to destroy the entire universe? Here are four possibilities.

The Key to Bringing Back the Titanians

For a while now, Thanos' home planet has been nothing but ashes. There was a time when Titan was home to the Titanian Eternals, a powerful and intelligent alien race. However, the planet's population was reduced to near zero when Thanos attacked it. Later, Thanos would finally kill his father shortly before his son Thane, powered by the Phoenix Force, obliterated what was left of life on Titan. On top of that, in the pages of Avengers, it was revealed that all of the Eternals are now dead.

Perhaps, following his demise, Thanos would offer the Eternals a second chance at life. Perhaps he knows the key to bringing his people back. Of course, the Eternals are a powerful race whose presence can shift the balance of power in the cosmos, which means that many people might want to help bring them back, or do anything to prevent their return. It sure sounds like the makings of a possible war.

I.S.A.A.C.

I.S.A.A.C. stands for Integral Synaptic Anti-Anionic Computer. It was once the planet-wide computer system that regulated everything on the planet Titan. From the environment to all of the machinery, everything went through I.S.A.A.C., whose highly-advanced artificial intelligence could process almost anything. Like Ultron, it can even man various robot forms. Although meant to be a force for good, Thanos did manage once, after one of his numerous deaths, to orchestrate a scheme that turned I.S.A.A.C. evil.

What if this is exactly what Thanos is doing again? If his last will contains the processor that was once I.S.A.A.C., the return of the supercomputer could prove incredibly dangerous for the cosmos. Whether it is reprogrammed to be evil or other races are simply trying to get their hands on such a powerful weapon, this could be enough to ignite a massive conflict.

A Means for Resurrection... or Permanent Death

Throughout the years, Thanos is a character who has died many, many times. And yet, the Marvel villain has always found a way to come back to life. Therefore, it stands to reason that his last will could actually be a secret way to ensure his return to life. After all, Thanos didn't seem too bothered by the fact that Gamora was coming to kill him. Perhaps it's because he saw a way to prevent his future, all while securing an avenue for his return.

Of course, there is also the possibility that Thanos is after the exact opposite. What if, instead of coming back, he wants to make sure this time he truly stays dead, to make sure that his disappointing future never comes to pass? If the means to ensure his eternal death are on his last will, then everyone, from all corners of the universe, could fight each other to try and make sure this eventuality becomes a reality.

Thane's Legacy

Thane

In the pages of Jonathan Hickman's 2013 event Infinity, it was revealed that Thanos had a long-lost son named Thane. The two have obviously been at odds ever since, a confrontation that reached a boiling point in 2017's Thanos series. There, Thane harnessed the power of the Phoenix Force and attempted to kill his father. However, the Mad Titan would ultimately win the fight, throwing his son in the God Quarry, where a fate worse than death awaited him.

While this could be the end of Thane, it's also possible that Thanos' last will and testament could pave the way for his return. After all, Thane is family, and a last will usually involves bequeathing something to family members. Well, what if the Thanos Legacy title is even more literal than we believed? What if Thanos is offering Thane a way out of the God Quarry, on the condition that he embraces his father's legacy as an emissary of death? Thanos' ship, the Sanctuary, could now be Thane's, and a quest for death and destruction could be his new purpose in life.

Once again, this sounds like something that could lead to a devastating war -- one that would be fought on many fronts, from the Black Order to Thanos' adopted children and every possible alien race in the Marvel Universe.

Of course, no matter what will be on Thanos' last will and testament, the Mad Titan ultimately wins. His is a drive to kill, and to see Death prevail. No matter what is on there, war is coming and death will follow. Dead or alive, this will surely bring a smile to Thanos' face.
