Marvel Comics has released the solicitations for its Feb. 2022 titles, and among them is Eternals: The Undying, which teases Thanos leading the titular group against a deadly foe.

At the start of this year, Marvel Comics began releasing a new Eternals series helmed by Kieron Gillen and Esad Ribić. In Eternals #7, which released earlier this month, Thanos became the Prime Eternal after killing Druig. That role, which has previously been held by such characters as Zuras, Ikaris and Thena, is the group's highest leadership position. Solicits through January indicate that Thanos will hold that position for quite some time.

Eternals: The Undying -- which is a one-shot written by Gillen and illustrated by Ryan Bodenheim -- promises to put Thanos' leadership to the test. However, the Mad Titan will end up being the lesser of two evils, as the Eternals will find themselves up against Uranos. Created by Jim Starlin, Uranos first appeared in Captain Marvel #29. While Uranos is also an Eternal, his desire to conquer led to a civil war. Uranos and his followers -- known as Uranites -- lost that war and were sent into exile.

Created by Jack Kirby and first appearing in 1976's The Eternals #1, the titular group are powerful beings created by the Celestials to defend Earth. In general, they've found themselves pitted against the Deviants, though since their debut, some Eternals have helped the larger Marvel Universe against other enemies. Thanos, for his part, is a mutated Eternal and so looks like a Deviant.

Outside of the comics, the Eternals and Deviants finally made their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Chloé Zhao's Eternals. While that movie has earned $284.6 million at the worldwide box office at the time of writing, the movie has been less well-received critically. Currently, Eternals holds a 47 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the first MCU film to earn the "Rotten" distinction.

You can see the cover for Eternals: The Undying #1 below alongside the solicitation information for the issue. Slated for Feb. 2022, the issue features covers from Andrea Sorrentino and Phil Noto.
