Infinity War: Thanos Is the MCU's 'Uber Bad Guy,' Says Anthony Mackie

Although Thanos' origin and motivitations have been tweaked to make him almost noble, Avengers: Infinity War star Anthony Mackie is still certain Marvel's Mad Titan is no ordinary villain, but rather the worst of the worst.

"The great thing is that tonally, how the movie's working now everyone -- it's not like you see one person who is the lead of the movie," the Faclon actor said during a set visit attended by Screen Rant and other outlets. "It's truly and ensemble movie. I would say if anybody is the lead of the movie it's Thanos. And it's all of us working around, orbiting Thanos because he's such a big bad guy. He's the uber bad guy. He's the worst bad guy of all bad guys of all time. So you can't like put them in three scenes down, then a fight scene at the end. You really have to give them just due. So, our relationship and our scenes are more ensemble based. Everybody playing with a relationship with each other."

Mackie's remarks seem to indicate that Infinity War will overcome the Marvel Cinematic Universe's villain problem by having Thanos play a much more prominent role than antagonists usually have. The actor's statements also reinforce the assertion by co-writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus that Infinity War is really a Thanos movie.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin, among others. The film opens April 27.
