Judgment Day writer Kieron Gillen says Thanos' "grandfather" Uranos has a lot in common with Succession's Logan Roy.

Speaking with CBR in an exclusive interview, Gillen was asked about the differences between Uranos, who is technically Thanos' great-uncle but is referred to as his grandfather, and the Mad Titan. Noting Uranos is much more "cold" than his relative, Gillen compared the villain to Logan Roy, a major Succession character played by Brian Cox. "I describe him as Logan Roy in Succession," Gillen said. "He's got all these children, and they're all disappointments. So, Uranos is like, 'I've had enough of this shit.' The first [Judgment Day] issue plays it pretty coy, but when you actually see what he does in action over in X-Men: Red or Legion of X, you'll see his vibe is very different than Thanos. He's not enjoying it in the slightest. He's annoyed [that] you're not all dead already."

Created by Jim Starlin, Uranos first appeared in 1980's What If? #24. At the start of Judgment Day -- a major Marvel crossover event pitting the Eternals, X-Men and Avengers against one another -- Uranos is freed from his prison by Druig, the Prime Eternal, and sent to destroy the X-Men's planet of Arakko. Uranos does so in less than an hour and X-Men Red #5 by writer Al Ewing and artist Stefano Caselli shows him mercilessly ripping Magneto's heart out in the midst of the battle.

Logan Roy: A Different Kind of Evil

Succession is an Emmy Award-winning HBO series that premiered in 2018. Having concluded its third season in late 2021, Succession follows the dysfunctional Roy family fight against one another for control of Waystar RoyCo, a major media and entertainment company worth billions of dollars. Logan Roy, the patriarch of the family, initially runs the company but discloses his plans to retire in the near future during the show's first season. The announcement causes his four children -- Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin), Shiv (Sarah Snook) and Connor (Alan Ruck) -- to try and win over their father's affection so they can inherit the metaphorical throne; however, Logan rules the company with an iron fist, forcing the family to resort to backstabbing, betrayals and sabotage.

The Marvel crossover event continues on Aug. 2 with Judgment Day #2, which promises to introduce the "most important people in the Marvel Universe." The synopsis for the issue reads, "...THE WICKED WILL BE PUT TO DEATH! As the world shakes, an unlikely group of heroes and less-than-heroes gather to find a peaceful solution. Sadly, the best laid plans of man, mutant and Eternal oft go awry…"
