Avengers: Infinity War was the movie we've all been waiting for since before we even knew it was coming. The movie that untied around 40 heroes, villains and supporting characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie that's the culmination of ten years' worth of movies, the movie that gave us odd team-ups like Iron Man and Doctor Strange and Thor and Rocket Raccoon, the movie that finally brought Thanos and his children to Eart, the movie with so many Easter eggs that you can't possibly catch all of them, the movie that made us laugh with hilarious one-liners, and the movie that ripped out all our hearts and pulverized them in a blender. But, it's time we try and get past the whole trauma and depression thing and the best way to do that is humor.

As it is the case with pretty much everything in this day and age, Avengers: Infinity War spawned a myriad of absolutely hysterical memes. Not surprisingly, a good number of those memes involve Thanos and his Black Order in some way. After all, they did play kind of a major role in the film. In fact, Thanos acts as the protagonist of Infinity War. It's his story that we're following. He's the one who gets the most screen-time. He's even the hero, in a certain light. Even if he did cause us severe emotional pain. But hey, let's not dwell on that right now. We're just here to look at some funny pictures.

18 MR. STARK, YOU TALK TOO MUCH

Ebony Maw Chattering Animal

Avengers: Infinity War, despite the tragic manner in which it ended, had a lot of funny moments. Take for example, the scene where Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw arrive on Earth in pursuit of the Time Stone. The wheel-shaped ship appears in the sky out of nowhere and the two members of the Black Order soon find themselves in the middle of a street in New York City.

Hearing and sensing the commotion outside, Tony Stark and his entourage run towards the danger and confront the invaders head-on. Naturally, Stark is the loudest and immediately starts talking smack. But, Ebony Maw won’t have any of it. Ignoring Stark completely, Maw addresses Strange and refers to Stark as a 'chattering animal'.

17 HELLO, OLD FRIEND

Loki Black Order

In Avengers: Infinity War, Loki swore his undying loyalty to the Mad Titan in an attempt to trick Thanos. Of course, Thanos did not believe a single word that came out of Loki’s mouth and rightfully so. Thanos had already tried making a deal with the God of Mischief, and we all know how that turned out in the end.

We all love Loki, but let’s face it, he does have a tendency to stab people in the back every so often.

Thanos’ Black Order hasn’t forgotten about Loki’s past mischievous behavior and they’re not about to let him forget about them either. Perhaps, Loki should be more careful about whom he betrays.

16 FALSE ADVERTISING

Thanos Different Look

One of the many advantages of the internet era is the ability to order pretty much anything you can imagine online and have it delivered to your front door. Need food? Not a problem. Want an Infinity War T-shirt? It's just a couple of clicks away. Everything’s available to be shipped to your doorstep, relatively fast. However, there’s one downside to ordering stuff online – it doesn’t always look the way it does on the pictures.

Take for example everyone’s favorite Mad Titan and the proud recipient of the Dad of the Year Award for 2018, Thanos. When we first saw him in The Avengers he was an unmistakably rich purple, yet when he finally arrived on Earth his beautiful tan had faded considerably.

15 IT’S A FAMILY MOVIE

Infinity War Family Reunion

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no stranger to family drama. Daddy issues and other familial topics seem to be a very popular theme in Marvel's movies. A lot of MCU movies also like to focus on sibling relationships, that usually don’t fall under what you’d consider normal or healthy.

Family is a recurring theme in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Avengers: Infinity War is no different.

Thanos the Mad Titan sure has a lot of children. Previously we’d only met his two runaway daughters, Gamora and Nebula, but Infinity War introduced us to four more of his children. Even though this is a family reunion, we never said it was a joyous one, so don’t expect a big family dinner.

14 THE IMAX EXPERIENCE

Ebony Maw IMAX

In case you don’t know how much of a difference watching a movie in IMAX can make, here’s a good example. Both of these screenshots were taken from Avengers: Infinity War, but the difference in quality is jarring. If you look closely at the upper image you will notice that Ebony Maw doesn’t quite look like himself. He is much flatter and more rounded. We'd dare to say that he looks like Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants.

The colors lack brightness and depth. On the first image, everything kind of blends together. While in the second image, we can see all the subtle nuances more clearly. There’s really no contest between the regular old screen and IMAX.

13 STONE BAE

Thanos Infinity Stones Spice

A Turkish chef named Nusret Gökçe became an Internet celebrity when he posted a video of himself flamboyantly sprinkling salt on a piece of carved stake. Unsurprisingly, this turned into a meme that was dubbed Salt Bae. The video spread like wildfire and inspired many to post their own videos and fanart in style of the Salt Bae meme.

One example of the Salt Bae meme is Thanos sprinkling the Infinity Stones over the Infinity Gauntlet.

Once he finally gathered all the stones, not even Thanos could resist having some fun with his most prized possessions. Too bad he didn’t lose one of those stones before he made the decision to snap his fingers.

12 THANOS DEMANDS IT

Ebony Maw Spoilers

Ahead of the theatrical release of Marvel’s most anticipated movie, Avengers: Infinity War, there was a lot of talk about spoilers. Both fans and Marvel Studios pleaded with all of us not to reveal spoilers and ruin the experience for other fans. The Russo brothers, the film's directors, shared a letter signed by Thanos reminding fans to play nice and not spoil the movie for those who have yet to see it. The picture was shared on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #ThanosDemandsYourSilence.

This has led to the creation of very clever memes that revealed Infinity War spoilers without context. Speaking of memes, here’s one of the Chattering Animal and Squidward telling you that the big purple guy demands your silence.

11 WAIT FOR IT…

Thanos Wait

Growing tired of waiting on his minions to procure the Infinity Stones, Thanos donned his Infinity Gauntlet and vowed to go get the stones himself. “Fine. I’ll do it myself,” Thanos said in the post-credits scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

However, for some reason, it took Thanos three years to get to Earth.

After seven movies, Thanos finally reappeared in Avengers: Infinity War. But, we’re not the only ones who find this a bit odd. Just look how impatient Thanos got because he had to wait that long to finally make his grand entrance. If it’s any consolation, the wait was worth it.

10 THANOS AND THE BLACK ORDER ARRIVE ON EARTH

Thanos Black Order Arrival

We’re beginning to think that the Russo brothers watched way too many episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants. It’s amazing how many parallels one can be drawn between Avengers: Infinity War and a cartoon about the adventures of a yellow anthropomorphic sea sponge. There’s a sentence we never thought we’d have to write.

Whether or not it’s about paying homage to a beloved cartoon, purely for comedic effect or both, it’s up to each of us to decide for ourselves. We could even be blowing everything way out of proportion. But before you go and decide that, here’s a screenshot of Thanos and the Black Order arriving on Earth. Well, sort of.

9 WRONG MOVIE, WRONG WIZARD

Doctor Strange Voldemort

Ebony Maw was, by far, the most interesting member of the Black Order and we were actually kind of sad when he got sucked out into space. But while we're on the subject of references to other movies, a lot of fans have pointed out that the noseless Ebony Maw kind of looks like Voldemort.

Since Maw spends most of his time on-screen fighting a wizard, this likeness only grows stronger.

Perhaps we’ve all been fooled and this is in fact Voldemort. Well, at least that’s what Doctor Strange thinks. And he’d appreciate it very much if He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named would return to his own movie.

8 HOW INFINITY WAR COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED

Thanos Iron Man

Now that Thanos wiped out half of the universe with a simple snap of fingers, it’s up to the remaining Avengers to figure out a way to bring everyone back. Captain Marvel has been called in and she’ll definitely be a good ally in such difficult times. However, fans can’t help but wonder if there was a way to prevent this catastrophic scenario.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, someone out there found a way. Tony Stark’s parenting methods seem to have worked just fine on Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming, so why not give Thanos the same treatment? Perhaps instead of fighting the titan, Tony should have just asked for the Gauntlet politely.

7 THIS DOES PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE

Thanos Balance Fun

"Fun isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe... but this does put a smile on my face." We have to admit we were a bit disappointed that this particular line from Thanos’ speech from the Avengers: Infinity War trailer did not make it into the final cut of the movie. But, it will live on in our hearts and in our memes.

Speaking of memes, here’s what Thanos really thinks about balancing the universe and having fun in the process. Sure, for some it can be fun, but the important thing to remember is that balancing the universe is a serious task and should not be taken lightly, as a mem that combines Thanos and Boromir from The Lord of the Rings reminds us.

6 TRUE LOVE

Ebony Maw Squidward Best Worst

The phrase 'if you don’t love me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best' recently gained unexpected popularity. "How?" you may ask. Well, by becoming a meme. How does anything become popular nowadays anyway? It’s all about exploitability and funny images.

This classic affirmation proved that its simple exploitability makes it a seemingly inexhaustible source of memes.

The ‘If You Don’t Love Me At My’ Meme swiftly took over Twitter before we even realized it had happened and soon enough, even celebrities were making these memes. Applicable to anything ranging from selfies to politics, the meme was also used to poke fun at Ebony Maw, whom we will now forever associate with Squidward.

5 FAMILY WAR

Thanos Black Order Children

The most famous dad in the entire galaxy, Thanos, has adopted a lot of kids from all kinds of species. But don’t hand him any parenting awards just yet because his methods are questionable at best. One needn’t look further than Gamora and Nebula to realize what a bad father Thanos has been. It’s no wonder his two daughters turned on dear old dad. Yet, Thanos’ other four children, especially Ebony Maw, seem to be loyal to a fault.

Of course, Gamora and Nebula are not the only Children of Thanos who are upset with Thanos. But, at least they got to be in the movies. Poor Supergiant wasn’t even allowed to appear on the big screen, even though she's in the comic book Black Order.

4 THAT’S MORE LIKE IT

Iron Man Squidward

Tony Stark is the chief nickname-giver in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Stark has a tendency to casually assign pop-culture-related nicknames to both people and objects. In The Avengers, he calls Thor "Point Break." In Captain America: Civil War, he dubs Spidey "Underoos." And in Avengers: Infinity War, Star-Lord becomes "Flash Gordon" and Ebony Maw is dubbed "Squidward."

It’s clear that Tony has a somewhat dismissive attitude towards official names, real or made-up, and prefers to come up with nicknames he finds more suitable. While these are hilarious, unfortunately, we will never be able to look at either Ebony Maw or Squidward the same way.

3 DEJA VU

Parallel Universe Ebony Mew Doctor Strange

In Avengers: Infinity War, Ebony Maw kidnapped Doctor Strange, took him aboard the Q-Ship and tortured him with acupuncture in an attempt to get the Time Stone. And if that shot of Stange surrounded by needles looked familiar to you, it probably reminded you of SpongeBob SquarePants.

SpongeBob faced a similar situation in a segment titled “Prehibernation Week” in a 2001 episode.

A clever fan combined the image of SpongeBob playing Hey in the Needle Stack with a screenshot of a mean-looking Squidward and this is the hilarious result. It’s Ebony Maw vs. Doctor Strange, the SpongeBob SquarePants edition. And what’s not to love about that.

2 POWER RANGERS THANOS FORCE

Thanos Black Order Superhero Pose

It’s safe to say that Deadpool has pretty much killed the infamous superhero landing. There’s no way anyone who’s seen the Deadpool movies can ever watch a hero do a superhero landing without cracking up. Thanks for that, Wade. But, at least we still have team superhero poses, right?

Wrong. Because, if Deadpool won’t bludgeon overused tropes to death, fan art sure will. Thanos and his children posing in the style of Power Rangers is something we won’t be able to get out of our heads for a long time. And by the looks of it neither will Peter Parker. Too bad Tony is such a stuck-up.

1 THANOS MISSES GAMORA

Thanos Ebony Maw Gamora

If you think that Thanos is cold-hearted – well, you’re right to a certain degree. But don’t think that’s all he is for a second. Despite the fact that he sacrificed his favorite daughter for the Mind Stone and destroyed half the population of the entire universe, Thanos is far from being just a Mad Titan.

A lot of what he said in Infinity War actually makes sense. Though, his methods are a tad extreme.

Besides, the old man actually misses his beloved daughter. He’s even making poor Ebony Maw impersonate Gamora in this meme. So far, he’s doing an excellent job.
