Avengers: Infinity War ended with Thanos achieving his goal of wiping out half the life in the universe. Although it's still uncertain exactly what the Mad Titan has been doing since, the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame gave fans a glimpse at what he's been up to since the event now known as The Decimation. The trailer showed two brief shots: one of a damaged Infinity Gauntlet and another of his armor serving as a scarecrow. Although Earth's Mightiest Heroes will aim to set things right in Avengers: Endgame, one of the biggest mysteries surrounds what Thanos has been doing since the snap, and we think we have an idea.

Last week, we reported Joe and Anthony Russo's comments on Thanos' status after Infinity War. Although they didn't go into much detail, they did seem to confirm that he'd left his old life behind. "He's retired," Joe said. "He’s succeeded in the thing he has set out to do. He’s done. He did it."

The Russo brothers also confirmed in their director's commentary for Infinity War that the power it took Thanos to use the Infinity Gauntlet damaged him permanently. They didn't make clear if that damage was physical or emotional, but we think it might just be the latter, with Thanos feeling saddened by his own actions, which might just drive Endgame's plot. Check out the video below to hear our theory on what Thanos has been doing since his snap.

Of course, we won't know exactly what Thanos has been up to until Endgame releases next year. It's likely that his status following Infinity War is going to be integral to reversing the snap, though it's pretty clear that Captain Marvel will also play a big role in that process. Who, if anyone, will be the one to fell the Mad Titan remains unknown at this time, but there's a lot of characters who have good reason to want him dead.
