Leatherface is not the only original Texas Chainsaw Massacre character returning to the slaughterhouse sequel. Decades after she escaped from Leatherface's cannibalistic home, sole survivor Sally Hardesty will finally surface in David Blue Garcia's upcoming film.

While the Garcia-helmed film hasn't shared its plot, the film will feature an aged Sally Hardesty portrayed by Olwen Fouéré (Mandy), as confirmed by Bloody Disgusting.

Marilyn Burns portrayed Sally Hardesty in Tobe Hooper's 1974 film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but never reprised her role in the franchise. However, Burns did provide cameos in both Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation and Texas Chainsaw 3D. The Emmy-nominated Scream Queen passed away in her sleep in 2014 at the age of 65.

Similar to David Gordon Greene's Halloween reboot -- which successfully relaunched the Michael Myers-starring franchise with an aged Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) facing off against an older version of Michael to overcome her past trauma -- the 2021 sequel to Hooper's 70s slasher will showcase an older Sally Hardesty alongside an aged Leatherface.

Although details are still surfacing around Sally's look and motivations, it's been confirmed that Leatherface "may even be slightly obese" and "wears church clothes that are too tightly fitted." In May 2020, it was also then confirmed that Leatherface will speak in "guttural noises that range from a howling belly laugh to a pig-like squeal."

2013's Evil Dead producer Fede Alvarez is reproducing the sequel film alongside Bad Hombre’s Rodolfo Sayagues, Ian Henkel and Pat Cassidy. The 1974 original film's co-writer Kim Henkel is also serving as a producer on the upcoming sequel.

In August 2020, the film switched its director due to creative differences between then-directors Ryan and Andy Tohill and Legendary Pictures. One week after the movie began filming, Legendary Pictures decided to change its "deranged" direction, scrap all filmed footage by the Tohill brothers and restart the film with Garcia directing instead. Although it's unknown what these creative differences were, it is known that Legendary Pictures is looking to relaunch the Leatherface-starring franchise around the 2021 film.

Directed by David Blue Garcia from a script by Chris Devlin, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre stars Elise Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, Mark Burnham, Moe Dunford, Olwen Fouéré, Alice Krige, Jacob Latimore, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Sam Douglas, William Hope and Jolyon Coy. The film arrives in theaters in 2021.
