Chain Saw Confidential will explore the dramatic production of Tobe Hooper's classic horror film, which grossed over $30 million on a budget of $140,000 and spawned an entire franchise. David Dubos is reportedly adapting the book to screen, with Robert Abramoff onboard as executive producer. The project is being described as a "dark comedy" and is set to begin casting soon, however no information on the film's release date has been revealed.

Hansen, who played Leatherface in the film, published his book in 2013. The Chain Saw Confidential book featured interviews from cast and crew members, as well as an analysis of the film's reception and legacy. Hansen started the project as an autobiography, but instead preferred to document the various perspectives of iconic movie's making.

While the filming process was controversial, so was The Texas Chain Saw Massacre's source material. Director Tobe Hooper was inspired by Ed Gein, infamous murderer who also influenced Silence of the Lamb's Buffalo Bill and Psycho's Norman Bates.
