The Texas Department of Public Safety recently found itself in hot water after sending out a real Amber Alert for Chucky, the killer doll from the Child's Play film franchise.

The department blamed the accidental alert sent on Jan. 29 on a "test malfunction," according to Gizmodo. The alert itself named Chucky as the suspect in an abduction and described him as 28 years old, having red/auburn hair and blue eyes, standing at 3' 1", and weighing around 16 pounds. It also described him as wearing "blue denim overalls with multi-colored striped long sleeve shirt [and] wielding a huge kitchen knife."

Chucky the Killer Doll was first introduced in 1988's Child's Play. It's revealed in the movie that the doll is actually animated by serial killer Charles Lee Ray, who used black magic to put his soul inside the doll.

The accidental Amber Alert also identified the abducted child as a 5-year-old named Glen, weighing six pounds, standing at 2' 3", and wearing a blue shirt with a black collar at the time of his abduction. Fans of the Child's Play films will recall that Glen is the eunuch son of Chucky and his fellow killer doll Tiffany. Glen first appeared in 1998's Bride of Chucky. By the end of the 2004 movie Seed of Chucky, Glen had committed six murders and was confirmed to have no genitals, similar to a Ken doll.

The Amber Alert for Chucky and Glen was sent out three times in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, according to CBS, before Texas public safety officials told reporters, "We apologize for the confusion this may have caused and are diligently working to ensure this does not happen again."

When The New York Times called the residential address in Henderson, Texas, that was listed in the alert as the last known location of Chucky and Glen, a woman answered the phone and confirmed she was aware of test malfunction.

It was previously announced that a new Child's Play television series, called Chucky, is being produced by USA Network and SyFy. The series was scheduled to begin filming in Toronto in Fall 2020, but was delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

An official synopsis for Chucky reads,

In the new CHUCKY television series, after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town's hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky's past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll's untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Created and directed by Don Mancini, Chucky stars Brad Dourif as the titular killer doll. The series is still expected to premiere on Syfy and USA Network later this year.
