Terry Crews and Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges are teaming up on the big screen for thriller John Henry, a reimagining of the classic folklore tale of John Henry. Will Forbes will make his directorial debut on the project.
According to Deadline, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine lead and Fast & Furious alum will headline the indie film. The film follows Crews' Henry as he moves to South Los Angeles in an attempt to leave a life of gang violence behind him. Henry runs into two kids running from his former gang boss (Ludacris) and wrestles with the idea of returning to the gang life to protect them from it.
Empire's Jamila Velazquez, Ken Foree, JJ Soria (The Oath) and Tyler Alvarez round out the cast, with Defiant Studios, Automatik and Kodiak producing.
Crews is currently starring in Fox's Deadpool 2 as the mutant Bedlam, part of Deadpool's budding X-Force team. He called the surprise role "trolling the world." Ludacris can be seen later this summer in Ride, about a man who dedicates his life to the sport of BMX.
Directed by David Leitch, Deadpool 2 stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, and Karan Soni as Dopinder, with newcomers Zazie Beetz as Domino, Josh Brolin as Cable and Julian Dennison as Russell. The film is playing in theaters everywhere.
