With Linda Hamilton returning to her iconic role of Sarah Connor in the latest Terminator movie, Terminator: Dark Fate, fans can see the actress take on the cyborg assassins once again. But according to director Tim Miller, the events of the movie may be happening because of Sarah.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Miller went into detail regarding the new Terminators, as well as Mackenzie Davis' character, Grace, and Gabriel Luna's new Terminator.

“There’s this new future because of what Sarah did at the end of Terminator 2, and it’s worse than ever,” Miller stated. “And that gives us the opportunity for these new characters. Gabriel comes from something that is not Skynet, but it’s like Skynet. And Mackenzie comes from something that Kyle Reese and the Resistance did. I tried to keep Gabriel a bit grounded while still interesting; I feel his new weapons and abilities are right for our times but not so ridiculous that it just turns into a visual effects superfest. And the same with Mackenzie’s character -- I really liked her origin story. We did an early writer’s room and Joe Abercrombie came up with her as this super soldier from the future, but it comes at a cost to be one of these people. They’re the first people to die, they’re the shock troops who protect the rest of humanity, and her readiness to sacrifice is a really interesting way to come at a character.”

At the end of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Sarah destroyed the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) at its behest, so as to keep it from being reversed engineered. It seems that in doing so, Sarah may have created an even worse future than the one the T-800 originated from.

Given how the teaser trailer showed an alive and aged T-800, the movie may provide an answer as to how it still exists despite its supposed death. But given how Sarah has defeated Terminators in the past, taking on the new models shouldn't be a problem for her.
