Terminator: Dark Fate star Mackenzie Davis revealed her character Grace Harper would have returned for a sequel via an alternate timeline if a followup to the 2019 film had been greenlit.

During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Davis explained that despite her character's death in Dark Fate, the franchise's use of various timelines would have played a part in her return. "It was gonna be a sort of timeline thing, where there'd be another timeline that you'd explore. Like, there's no resurrection, but she came from the future, so…" she said.

Dark Fate was initially expected to be the first entry in a new trilogy of Terminator movies meant to reinvigorate the franchise for a new generation. Despite receiving decent reviews upon its release, the movie flopped at the box office, earning $261.12 million worldwide on an estimated $185 million budget.

Davis' character of Grace was the franchise's first cybernetic-enhanced human with augmented abilities, such as increased strength and speed. She is sent back in time from the future to ensure the survival of Dani Ramos, who is being hunted by the deadly Rev-9. In the film's final battle, Grace sacrifices herself to ensure the ultimate destruction of the Rev-9.

Directed by Tim Miller and produced by James Cameron, Terminator: Dark Fate stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Mackenzie Davis, Gabriel Luna, Natalia Reyes and Diego Boneta.
