The world of Xbox's iconic Gears of War franchise is a dystopian nightmare where humanity desperately clings to survival against a reptilian Locust Horde. Similarly, the world of The Terminator is a dystopian nightmare where humanity desperately clings to survival against a legion of world-conquering robots.
Now, those two dark words will collide in the upcoming Gears of War title Gears 5. As Microsoft announced with a teaser during its E3 press conference today, the upcoming release will feature a character pack inspired by the upcoming film Terminator: Dark Fate.
Some warriors are born. Others are built. Get the Terminator Dark Fate character pack when you pre-order #Gears5 or play within the first week. #XboxE3https://t.co/8Nrh4tQvhb pic.twitter.com/4Ai27nY7VC— Xbox ➡️ E3 (@Xbox) June 9, 2019
The short-but-striking teaser shows the Terminator's iconic T-800 Endoskeleton wielding one of Gears of Wars' iconic Lancer guns, which memorably features a chainsaw bayonet. It's unclear if the DLC will feature any other characters from the franchise or if it will be available to purchase at a later date.
The Terminator: Dark Fate character pack will be a free bonus at launch for anyone who pre-orders the game. It will also be made freely available to anyone with a Game Pass membership who buys and plays the game within the first week of its release, by Sept. 16, 2019.
Outside of the Terminator cameos, Gears 5 takes place shortly after the events of the last game in the series, 2016's Gears of War 4. The Xbox Games Studios release follows Kate Diaz as she tries to unlock the truth hidden within her Locust Medallion. The game will also feature cross-platform play between Xbox and PC.
Gears 5 is set to be released on Xbox One and PC on Sept. 10, 2019.
